Seriously fantastic!
I've been too busy with school to do any exploring lately so I will live vicariously through posts like this one!
Looking forward to my break in August. ;)

Amazing how many similarities there are between the military installations across the country!

Bump going back out there for a photo shoot soon~

These are just great, they are so much bigger then they look from the outside. Here's the shell loader from the one at ubc.

Sure, here's some from the ubc gun.

The schematics.

Old picture of the gun top side.

Tell tale signs.

The entrance, although last i checked it was welded shut, these photo's are from a few years back now.

Tunnel leading to magazine.

Old picture of when it was operational.

As it now sits.

This is awesome. I sure wish there was a place like this around when I was a kid, we would have claimed it as our fort for sure. Ummm, okay I still wanna do that now.

I seem to have lots of reasons to visit Victoria.

Reminds me of a certain park in Esquimalt... I went exploring there once but it was during the day, so trying to infiltrate anything would be risky.

A very interesting location. Thanks for posting the photos of the other tunnel, I forgot my rope ladder at home. I enjoy how each one of these forts, although using similar blueprints, has some uniqueness owing to specific requirements and topography.

If anyone else gets off on technical details, here's a factoid I copied down from a book at the Victoria library:
The gun positions were partially roofed with 'plastic armour' blocks– a bullet-proof asphalt compound– set into a framework of steel beams.

As seen here:

Apparently, the shielding behind the gun position was also a recent innovation at the time. It consists of concrete blocks set into a steel frame, on the right:

On a related note, does anybody here have any photos of the old command post in Colwood on Triangle Mountain? We drove past this weekend, and the hilltop was already ripped into raw rock

This news video (from 2010) briefly shows part of the old bunkers:

Freak Nasty shame, bastards. There's stuff out near William Head, can't remember exactly where, found it on a general search.

From William head pen, its pretty easy to find, just a bit of a walk the original pics I posted are from that area, the whole area is closed do to, a old landmine me and a couple buddys found a few years ago, we never reported it hut it was found by a reserve two months after word
