The Rookie Forum is for arguing explorer dogma. What is your take, citizen? Hello people reading this thread. Bring useful things, don't mind me poking fun at a longer 'must have' list. I consider his to be suggestions that are useful on some trips. A PDA though? To each their own I suppose. This seems to be largely cribbed from Access All Areas, which is an enjoyable book. Unfortunately I've rarely been somewhere I needed to take notes, although I have a notebook about access points on my campus.

Heh. I was going for medium sarcasm. And that thing that sends me a UER message every-damn time I'm quoted seemed like a good idea at the time... then I get quoted twice! Actually it's anytime someone writes 'snail.' It's pretty much how you summon me to a thread, really.

| | | Something I never see on peoples list: An emergency whistle. You know, a "rape" whistle or whatever. If I'm disabled and in an out of the way place I can only yell for so long and the whistle (I have a killer one) can be heard far and wide. MHO.

| | | I've never brought more than: Camera Whichever torch has batteries in it Extra mega-flash on occasion That's it. No bolt cutters, no screwdrivers, no GPS which links to my iMac which connects by bluetooth to my FTP server, no lock picks, no gay porn, no funny haircut... None of the typical bullshit you see posted on a thread like this, in fact. Hasn't held me back in over 200+ mostly successful explorations. Chris...
We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit. |

| | | My list of stuff I always bring is: -Flashlight (3D maglight, need to get a better one) -Backup light (2aa maglight) -Leatherman-stye utility tool -20ft of cheap rope* -Cell phone Stuff I often bring: -Camera -Extra batteries -Fencing pliers (good in emergencies) -Water Beyond that, I'll bring tools and whatnot if I know I'll need them, but I try to avoid weighing myself down *Very useful for pulling my pack through/up/under places that I can't fit/climb with it on. That rope ends up getting the most unexpected uses.
