| | | Posted by Masterkayin One of the best lights that I've used is the Military issued Fulton MX-991/U. Picked it up at a gun show at a surplus table for eight bucks. Awsome light beam, water proof, durable, strong belt clip, extra bulb and filters contaned in end cap, and Camoed so you can't find the damn thing when ya need it. Found an unissued, flat colored one here: http://www.check6aviation.com/pages/fg/fgitempage/sg077t.htm
|
I have one of these and I cannot get it to work for the life of me. It's not the bulb, it's not the batteries, there's a bad connection somewhere and it won't turn on. Worked when I bought it, doesn't now. Suggestions?

| | | I've had bad switches and contacts at the top in some of mine. Also a Rayovac Xenon bulb is a good upgrade. I like the near uv filter for finding signs at night, they reflect real well and it doesn't light up the surroundings much at all.

| | | That happened to me yesterday, actually. Because of the way that the flashlight is made, even completely dis-assembled, it is a pain in the arse to get into. The only thing I could say is open up the head, remove the reflect, and pull the two contacts foreward a bit. If yours is exactly like mine, one should touch the reflector and the other should touch the rear of the bulb. That worked for me. Other than that, I think it may be toast. There is no real way to get to the switch inside. Hope this helps.

| | | First off,I can't stand flashlights. My preferred light of choice (at this time) is a Princeton Tec - Vor Tec headlamp. It's so much better to have both hands free. I do carry a regular flashlight as a back-up in my pocket. My favorite was a pelican super sabrelite that had a xenon bulb, too bad the batteries leaked and ruined the light.

I tried messing around with the contacts behind the reflector, but to no avail. I tried looking in from the bottom, and yeah there's no real good way to get to the switch itself, and I think that's where the problem is. Not a big deal, I got it for like $2, but dammit... These things are standard military issue? Well, gee, that's reassuring considering the piece of shit worked for like a day.

There's the military issue version, which is pretty sturdy and reliable, although nowhere near as good as some of the more expensive tactical lights available. Then there's a bunch of knockoffs that suck hot latin donkey balls. More than likely that's what you have.

| | | Could be a knock off. I know that there are a ton that use that design. I just know that the one I have IS genuine. And it stands up to what you'd expect it to, cept a long drop with a quick stop. I'd feel confident to have one of these in a battle situation, only more so if it were aluminum.

| | | 2 WORDS. SUREFIRE!!!! I GOT A C3 CENTURION, THING CAN LIGHT UP A BLUCK, IS WATER RESISTANT, AND IS RELIABLE AS HELL. ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT IT IS SO BRIGHT SINCE IT'S MADE FOR DEFENSE, MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN AN UNOCCUPIED PLACE BECAUSE IT CAN EASILY BE SEEN AT(AND LIGHT UP) 75 YARDS! I'D RECOMEND GETTING A SMALLER SUREFIRE SINCE I DID GET MINE FOR HOME DEFENSE. I LIKE THE EXECUTIVE SERIES. 60 LUMENS, TINY, GOOT LIGHT!

| | | Ok I've Got a question.. Has Anyone Tried one of these? http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/lights/5a9f/ I think that would be an awesome backup light if it really is half decently bright, like what better light then one that wont die? as a backup..... ~cause yeah primary, shaking it would get annoying, but if all other batts/bulbs dead, i'd shake the bugger to find my way out... Edit: Or even one of these maybe? something that takes hell... http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/lights/6536/ [last edit 6/15/2004 4:17 PM by Farrix - edited 1 times]

I have the Browning-stamped Super-Sabre. I actually retired my 6-C and 5-D MagLights to backup status when I got the Sabre. I found that it kicked the Mags in terms of brightness (yes, they had Krypton bulbs) and there was no black spot. It also served well as a back up dive light. I used to have a CF issue Fulton, but like all pieces of good kit, it grew legs. I currently have this in the truck.
Flashlight, Penlight Style, Pilots. MS 21998-2, U.S. Accur: Elx, OH. P/N 213310-2 2AA all aluminum with a retractable red filter. I like the design on my Milwaukee 18v work light, but I think it could be a lot brighter given the battery pack on it.

| | | I bought one of those Brinkman AA's for $11 & change. Pretty decent but still it hurts me that i can't adjust from spot to flood. Piece of plastic crap still holds up well. Nothing like the Choad's super Maglite.

| | | If you can get ahold of an old military-grade light then that's a pretty good choice. The ones I'm talking about are made of at least quarter-inch thick steel and made around the early 50's. they use those squareish 6-volt batteries. rather heavy but those things are fuckin bullettproof!

| | | As said before, choice of flashlight depends on where im going. I usually bring a 3D mag and some ~50$ headlight. The headlight got an ordinary bulb and 3 bright blue LEDs, batterypack at the back of the head, tiltable, waterproof (slipped and dropped it in a large drain, still working fine). The only bad thing is the flexible thingys tends to slip of the batterypack at the worst time possible (like halfway up a 60 meter ladder inside a concrete tube just big enough to fit myself and the backpack ), but thats fixable with a drill and some zipties. And the mag is useful, not only as a lightsource. ;) [last edit 7/5/2004 11:06 AM by dietyl - edited 1 times]
