Avius explores the Rockies part 1: Alberta grain elevator

Greetings from the Mid-Atlantic! Last week, I did a long road trip from the Salt Lake City airport, up the spine of the Rockies, to the Glacier/Waterton National Parks for my Wife's family reunion. (Airports with cheap, direct flights are kind of sparse out here, eh?) I got to explore a few places along the way, and I'll post them in their respective regional forums.

This grain elevator outside Cardston was beautiful. Lots of equipment and old signage around. From what I understand, there are not many of these historic structures left, thanks to modern farming and transportation techniques.

I only had about an hour to explore the place before a scheduled activity, so I wasn't as thorough as I would have liked, but I think I saw all the main areas.

Very cool,Avius! I can see a grain elevator like that out my front door. Can't get inside though, because it's been designated historic so she's locked up tight.

It's actually unfortunately due to corporate takeover of grain sales - now farmers bare the burden of transporting their grain to a centralized facility owned by one of maybe 3 companies that monopolize the grains in western canada. It's been a real killer for farmers.
