| | | So Iqueld here's doing this 4000 word essay on Urban Decay. Anyone here want to lend Iqueld a hand on some prime locations of where I could find some good examples? Keep in mind this doesn't necessarily entail locations interesting to UE-ers but places that are experiencing neglect and whatnot. I was going to hit East Hastings sometime this week but I don't know the safety of a boy walking down Hastings totin' around a shiny digital camera

| | | There are actually some great spots IN Richmond to do this. Try Triangle road and then just head down towards Steveston Highway......Look to your right about half way, be prepared it is very creepy. How about Finn slough for a kick, you don't even really need to leave Richmond to find some awesome decay. N. [last edit 7/15/2009 1:15 PM by nobody - edited 1 times]

| | | I already covered most of Richmond. Unsurprisingly it was not enough fieldwork to fill up 4000 words

| | | Well head into Queensborough, there is some great things there, then New West....That'll help. The flats in Burnaby if you know where that is has some killer decay. Good luck. N. [last edit 7/15/2009 8:04 PM by nobody - edited 1 times]

| | | Well that's the thing, it has to be specifically in Vancouver. If I included New West it would be like talking about the Australian outback in an essay about African rainforests

| | | South side of 100 block West Hastings Street is a prime example, though now experiencing somewhat of a revival due to the Woodwards development across the street. South side 100 block East Hastings has my personal favorite, the Pantages Theatre rotting away as well as several buildings adjacent. Careful with your camera down there, many do not like the cameras around.

| | | Oh yes, I forgot....also (a bit safer) is the 900 - 1000 block of Main Street, Cobalt Hotel and buildings directly north, and, across the street, the Old American Hotel, and some other abandoned gems with a fair bit of character adjacent.

| | | I scouted out the False Creek area today and found, to my surprise, the Opsal steel warehouse (I thought it was in the southeast part of Vancouver). That place is locked down tight

| | | East hastings is actually not that bad in the daytime. Also, gastown has some crazt stuff as well. Check out the Yale on Granville, and The Balmoral on hastings. One neat sign that may be of interest is the Quebec Grocery at 1077 Broadway West between spruce and Oak. Has a great orange crush sign hanging outside.

| | | New Westminster as well....like the Trapp Block- Front street, under the parkade.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too! |
