Better yet... get a really super hot girlfriend and take pictures of her tits and post them here. It's the only way to assert your adulthood... just ask Action Satisfaction.

AHHH! Finally! My very own fan! You make me feel so important mandias! <3

What are you talking about btw? I've never posted any pictures of my girlfriend here on UER as far as I recall, and especially nothing private. Silly old man! Confusion setting in as you age?

My parents don't necessarily like the idea of me entering an abandoned building because of
A. possible run-ins with homeless folk/vagrants
B. getting injured where there is no one else to assist me
C. getting arrested

Now, of these three things, two have happened, with the third being a close call. But any time I post pictures of where I've gone, my parents look at them and proceed to lecture me about being safe. Then they follow that up with ideas on where to go next. So it's kind of back and forth really. But I will say that I feel fully supported in this little hobby due to this: the only thing I got from my parents for graduating with a Masters this spring was a high-powered headlamp for exploring. Gosh, they must love me and stuff.

Ok. Obey your dad (his house) keep you job till you get a new one. Sounds like your parents are sheltered and blind. Sheltering your kids is just another way to make them easy prey. I have taken my son with me since he was 8 and he is now 12. My logic is this I started off easy and worked him into nastier places. I want him to know the streets without having to live in a rough neighborhood. He can now spot the difference between a crack zombie, a homeless dude, or Mandias.

My father thinks it's pretty cool, but sometimes he worries that it might be dangerous or that I could catch a disease or something (referring to draining). My step-mother, when she found out I drain a lot, said "I didn't know people your age do things like that." Doesn't really make any sense to me, as I highly doubt young children go into storm drains.

I have been brining my son with me since he was 9. He's a great explorer now, at 13. We started at National Lead in Tahawus (along with Adirondac Village). Now he spots possible targets before I do. He's also smarter about it than most of his peers. He says things like, "Dude, they don't even bring flashlights or gloves..."

But to answer your question, until you have the means to support yourself and live on your own, you should probably listen to your father. You could always invite him on an easy adventure, maybe he'll change his mind.

My parents know I explore abandoned buildings, but they don't know what it's really like. I've shown pictures of small derelicts in the countryside, but not of large industrial complexes, underground locations etc. I prefer to keep it that way.

Anyway, move out. It's really worth it.

Offer to take him to an abandonment so he can see what it's like. My parents were never against me exploring, but my dad really enjoys exploring now.

i always carry a knife.

Can you use it? If you don't, it can be quite counterproductive to try to defend yourself with one. I'd rather trust my feet than my knife-fighting skills...

plus i have nvgs so if im in a tunnel i can see and they cant.

Except if "they" have flashlights, in which case they can see and you can not :>

Beings dwelling in darkness tend to bring along something that helps them to see when there's no light. Light-amplifying equipment, artificial light sources, natural ability to see or otherwise sense the surroundings in the dark, thermal vision... Don't assume that you're the only one who can see just because you have fancy equipment. Do NVGs even work in a tunnel when there's no light to amplify?

I'm 24 and I just moved home to help renovate my dads place.

Thing is my dad is a 35 year career police officer.
(No I won't.... Narc on... us)

About a week after I moved in he asked me about my "Relic Case"
(Yes I take things from abandonments. Shoot me if you want.)

It was just full of old Bottles, Signs, Books, Mercury Ampules (I'm a gemini and have a strange fetich for mercury.), and other such relics of the abandonments I've been to.

The conversation went something like this.

Dad "Where did you get all this stuff?"
Me "Umm... you know... abandoned places."
Dad "Abandoned places? What is that?"
Me "You know, places that are abandoned. Hospitals, Factories, Buildings, Homes?"
Dad "You break into buildings? That's illegal."
Me "That depends on your definition of illegal. I me-"
Dad "The definition of illegal is whatever is against the law. Why do you do that? Go into these places.... do you do drugs in there?"
Me "Drugs.... What? No... I go because... well they are there."
Dad "I don't follow..."
Me "And you never will."
Exit.

Moral of the story.... Parents just don't get it. Well the majority anyways.

The best is to keep it low key... if they ask do your best to explain clearly to them. Otherwise save yourself the trouble and don't mention it unless you know they are cool.

We are going to inherit the earth . There is not the slightest doubt about that. The bourgeoisie may blast and burn its own world before it finally leaves the stage of history. We Are not afraid of ruins. We who ploughed the prairies and built the cities can build again, only better next time. We carry a new world, here in our hearts. That world is growing this minute.

I've told this here a couple of times, probably in response to the same thread only with a different title:

A few years ago, I told my mother that I can either lie to her and possibly get hurt and she wouldn't know where I was, OR I could tell her the truth and in case anything happened, she'd know where to find me.

It was her choice. She chose the safer one.

That night, I called her from jail ;)

Sorry, I probably forgot my <sarcasm> tags.

(to tupsumato) night visions work with infrared, so you can use them in complete darkness if you feel like it

I agree with the knife, you better know how to use one so you dont cut your self (or lose it to someone who does) Also dont expect to have time to open it if its folding, or unsheet it if you get surprised. Get trained... a lot. I've been doing weapons for two years now and i still happen to hit my self sometimes (nunchucks, knives, kalis).

If you want to have some good afternoon fun with friend, get some rubber or wood knives and have a couple of grappling rounds... thats amazingly fun, until one gets poked in the eye.
