| | | I'd reccomend weighing it down so that it is as straight as possible. Obviously it would be different, but there was a ropeladder-like dealy at a rockclimbing place I went to. It wasn't too hard, but you can spin around lots so you might want to figure ouut how to avoid that problem.

| | | I've used what could be called a 'rope ladder' to gain access to lagre billboards for tagging purposes. But this 'rope ladder' was certainly not the kind of thing id like to rely on for dangerous stuff. It was comprised of a helluvalotta nylon rope with wooden steps and a bricks at each end. It was like a grappling hook too, thus the brick to be lodged in place, but of coarse it didnt work nearly that great

| | | I bought a French surplus webbing ladder from Cheaper Than Dirt catalog (sorry, I don't recall seeing them for sale in the last catalog) but haven't had a chance to use it yet. And I bought a Tele-steps telescoping ladder from a Sears Hardware, they can be handy and fit in a car trunk but I really wouldn't want to carry it very far as it is a little heavy. Last I saw, the telescoping ladder is still about $200 (I have so much cool ninja gear but I live with mommy cause I buy this stuff). If you Rappel down and plan on using Ass senders to get back up, it might be a good idea to have some para cord or extra rope in case the ass sender (sends your ass to the top if working properly or sends your ass to the bottom if it doesn't) breaks somehow. You can tie the para cord into looping knots (Prussic knot?) that you stick you foot in and it catches but it will slide up the rope when you release pressure.

| | | I remember back in grade 9 gym class there was a rope setup that seemed pretty good and looks like it could get you up and down a drop pretty easily. I can't exactly remember what it was but it was something along the lines of this; There was a main rope that was secured to the top and the bottom was allowed to hang freely. There were two shorter ropes attached to the main rope that tightly secured themselves aound the rope unless you are climbing or descending. One of them went around your foot so you could push yourself upwards and the other attached to your waist so you could secure yourself into the new location once you push yourself up. To descend you just loosen one rope at a time and slowly slide yourself down. If anyone has any more information on this I'd really appreciate it.

| | | Sounds a lot like a prussik loop setup. There's info here somewhere. Try searching for prussik or prusik depending on who's doing the spelling.

| | | I dont think Ill ever finish it. I went to check out an area where there were some mines and there was an old cable ladder there that I had to try out. I think it would have been better used for a swing than a ladder, I see no way how it could work unless the bottom was weighted down so it wouldnt swing. Once I get some money that I dont need Im goin to buy some SRT gear. [last edit 4/12/2004 5:46 PM by Johnny Bravo - edited 1 times]

| | | Just take your time going down the ladderr. One step at a time and it shouldn't swing so much. I used to play on a rope ladder on a swing set that wasn't waited down. Its hard, but not impossible. I would doubt anyone would walk in on you in a mine, so take your time...

| | | Rope ladders are awsome, I've had some of the most exciting and scariest times with them. Being one of the younger people in UE, I live with my parents. When we moved into our newly remodeled house there were two rooms, one for me and one for my brother. The one on the front of the house has a window that drops straight on the roof so its an amatuer escape. My brother got that room. However my room has two windows, both which drop straight down to the ground...a good 15 foot drop. I saw that picture of the rope ladder that got started and decided to make my own, I will get a picture on here of it soon. It started as a 100 foot rope, and is now a 25 foot rope ladder. I tied it to my bed frame and dressed in all black (ski mask, water socks, gloves, the works) and went @$$ first out my window and down the ladder. Imagine trying to be quiet when the ladder is laying directly against the wall, it was scary @$$ stuff. Anyways, I bought a grappling hook recently and hooked it to the end of the rope ladder, which I have used several times since. In some of my UE "missions" there are things that I can climb but other people can't, and when I get the top I just throw down the rope ladder and secure the hook at the top. The ladder itself took a dedicated 2 hours in my bedroom to tie, but has been well worth it. It does swing some, but with practice you can climb it without much trouble. The one thing you really have to watch out for, is the ropes between each hand/foot hold tend to twise and make it hell to get your feet in. MAKE SURE THE ROPE IS UNTWISTED WHEN YOU START! as you go up, if you can keep the ropes untwisted it will make things insanely easier. I LEARNED THIS THE HARD WAY! On my way back into my window at 5 in the morning, I got to the second to last hand hold and had no foot holds!!!!! I was hanging on for dear life and had to scale all the way down with only my upper arm strength, and start the climb all over again. Ill try to get those pictures up soon!
