I really like the way you've composed the top pic, nontraditional with the background bits taking up more of the frame. I think for the viewer to be sure you meant to do that it either needs to be part of set that is framed similarly or it needs to be a bit more off kilter. It's best if the viewer never has a second to wonder "is that supposed to be that way".
