	I was in Seattle for Thanksgiving and noticed the Ballard Locks are being worked on. At the moment, the main Locks is empty and being cleaned during the day. From blueprints of the locks, I know there are water channels that are large enough to be entered standing up, and rather long at that. The inner workings are accessible by a dangerously slippery ladder climb down to the bottom of the main Locks. A quick disclaimer: this facility is Federal Gov't property and is administered by the Army Corps of Engineers. It definitely qualifies as an active site. Federal laws apply in precedence over state laws. I have to admit though, the man-shaped passageway in picture 3 was calling out to me Some photos: Freedom breeds war; and Peace, slavery. So it shall be forevermore: Men who love freedom buy it with their lives, and lovers of peace with their freedom.

	Yeah, they empty them out twice a year. I think they do the big lock once and the little one the other time. Pretty sure your pic is of the big lock. Did you see the pictures of how it works on the signs there? There are tunnels there but they only really lead a few few feet or so up to the level of the lake and back down to the sound. If you're looking for some exploring go try and hit up some of the big old fishing boats there on the canal. Cool pic though, it's weird seeing them empty. [citation needed]
