if you have a legitimate commercial use, there are several companies that sell hi-res satellite imagery. beyond a certain point, hi-res is restricted to military/governmental use.

if you want to use one for exploring purposes, in my experience maps.google.com with the satellite view is sufficient -- or the full google earth application which has a higher resolution.

a word of advice, if you are doing Urban Exploration your best resource is just scouting things out for yourself on foot and using google maps. if you are looking around for the grade of imagery where google maps isn't sufficient, of the seat of government of your state, youmay attract unwanted attention.

Most Counties offer some sort of public GIS system online that would help you. King County I know has a nice one, not sure about Thurston County.

maps.google.com with street view works well for scoping out buildings. maps.live.com works better when using their "birds-eye" option.

alright thanks guys.

yeah, i didn't realize how sketchy my question seemed either haha, olympia being the capitol city and all too.

i'm not a terrorist officer, i swear! i just like old buildings, really!

a friend and i actually got caught at a massive construction site the other day (not in olympia), and the officer could simply not understand that we would just want to explore the area, without any other motives. he kept asking what we stole and where our spraypaint was. blah. nonetheless, we got off clean.
really cool site though. maybe ill post pictures to the flikr later, though it was really dark.
