I believe I saw this question somewhere, but I don't recall where. If someone has a link to it I'll get this deleted...

What is the general feeling on lifting from sites? Either small things like a flyer from an old bulletin board or something like a cool piece of furniture. I see some of the furniture in shots in the photography section and I think "that would be awesome in my house."

How many of you guys have lifted from your sites? Either small things like a flyer from an old bulletin board or something like a cool piece of furniture. I see some of the furniture in shots in the photography section and I think "that would be awesome in my house."

Oh man.

This topic is guaranteed to start a fight here on UER. Everybody has their own beliefs. If you want to know what some perspectives are, use the search button on the left, and type in ethics or stealing. You will find 40 threads.

Good luck.

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

Sorry I didn't mean to start anything...I've never explored before and was just curious about the overall view of things like this in the community. I can see how you don't want to cheapen experiences for future explorers, but just wanted the general opinion on this.

I can tell you it is mostly frowned upon here. The general consensus is take only photographs, leave only footprints. You'll find other UE websites(leave it alone guys) that have a totally different point of view. I like to think the right thing to do is leave everything where you find it so the next person who comes along can enjoy it the same as you did.

Basically you'll see 75% of the people here say stealing is bad and it ruins it for other explorers, the site, etc. Then the trolls come out and one will say something retarded. Then the battle for middle earth begins. You'll get one or two more trolls to help out the first troll. The "good guys" will defend against the trolls for a little while, but they are truly good guys and step away from the thread so as not to cause too much of a commotion.

All in all, it makes UER looks retarded as a whole, and the poor new guy who started the whole thing goes and hides and watches from the distance.

Sorry, nothing you personally did wrong. But as you can tell, this happens on a bi-weekly basis around here.

Should I request this topic be removed? I have a ton of other questions, I just don't want to post them all cause I would probably just clog up the board.

If it's yellow, let it mellow.

Most of your questions are probably already answered, just use the search.
As for your question. You went from flyers, to furniture. It's a big leap.

I DO believe that the question was "How many of you guys have lifted from your sites?" not "Do you think it's ethical to lift from sites?"

Here's my answer:

Yes. I've taken 1 printing address from a rusting pile of printing plates thrown on the floor of an abandoned printing room.

If you want to protect the locations you love to explore, don't talk about them online in public!
If you want to make exploring friends, send people private messages! Meet up in real life! Get off the internet!

I don't think you started anything, but you are right about ruining the experience for future explorers.

The general blanket consensus here is to leave everything untouched the way you found it as much as possible. The take pics, leave footprints motto holds true.

There are very few scenarios where removing something from a site might be justified, ethics aside, but as mentioned, it's been beat to death in past threads.

If everyone took something home, we'd be left with empty warehouses, homes and factories.

By leaving what you find, you preserve it for the next person.

I sometimes bring small something back. Nothing major tho. A unused sticker, and a room key is all ive ever taken. I believe in small things that there is PLENTY of are ok. But NOTHING else. Otherwise your pretty much a theif. A piece of paper and a piece of plastic is pretty much what mine boil down to. But I scanned them in hopes of preserving some history of the sites for others to look back on when the sites are Demo'd

wow.... seriously.... an ethics thread again?

fine. Here goes.

Do what you feel is best. If it looks like someone is cleaning up the place, and there's piles to be trashed, by all means stuff your pockets. I'd have taken more from that location (there were some really neat 50's era fire escape signs) but there was no way I could get out of there with them without getting caught. Do what you feel best. If you think that it's better the leave it, by all means. If it's something that others will enjoy, consider leaving it for them (personally I would). Don't let some yaking faces forum members tell you what is and isn't right, just like we've all decided not to let other people decide if it's wrong to enter a building that no one's using, or to enter a drain system that your taxes pay for, etc. etc.

There's a difference between morals, ethics, and laws, but some people think that all three are the same.

Anyway, yes, just please use the search feature. There are 365 results on "stealing", 118 results on "taking from sites", 53 on "souvenirs", and 454 on "ethics".

Thank you, and no offense of course. It's really just a loaded topic that's been beat to death. I promise you that using the search feature in the future will circumvent these kind of reactions!
