WEM: Halls of Danger and Lost Children

With all this coverage in the Journal about mall rats, it got me thinking (or rather, worrying) that it might not be safe to be exploring the underside of West Edmonton Mall. It's not impossible that you could encounter a teen, high on Ecstasy and brandishing a knife, who thinks you're there to kill him.

What do you think? Exploring the mall: Harmless fun or a deadly game?

quit reading Asper owned media crap....that is all.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too!

I recommend due caution, mall basements are well known for it's wild raves, and is frequented by people who use dirty language. If you decide to explore the basement of a mall, just remember the following common sense "survival tips"

- Never accept a ride or candy from strangers
- If you see a lit stove or fire, under no circumstances should you touch it
- Always say "Thank You" after someone has done you a favour.
- Wash your hands after eating

With due caution, exploring a mall basement can be wholesome and fulfilling, and safe, but just remember the old boy scouts axiom "Cautionity is the best policy".

Let's examine this sentence.

Ecstacy is not a hallucinogen, nor does it promote aggressive behavior.

He'd be more likely to try and hug you, and offer to cuddle under a giant funfur blanket.

Walk away.

I dunno, I've seen some kids pop E and start going nuts with the "itches". I have to admit I'd be a little freaked out to discover a scratched up and frustrated teen. Besides, when is there EVER just one teen by themself? They're often accompanied by a group of more drugged up buddies.

My words of wisdom: Just keep on walkin' and don't take photos of intoxicated people, you'll do fine.

You're not witnessing an ecstasy high in this case.
