| | | Accidently found out yesterday that the No.2 Rod Mill of Stelco's is being torn down. It's off of Burlington St. The main gate is on Hobson Rd. But the BEST way to get into the complex [...] Best time to go would be on a Sunday !!!! Great place to explore. You NEED A FLASH on your camera. When I went there was 2 cars parked near the main gate. While taking pictures at the gate a security guard naturally came up to me asked what I'm doing and stuff. She was ok with it, but if it was a guy for sure I would have gotton "told" the usuall bullshit that your not suppose to be here etc etc.
Anyways.... The back half of the complex is torn down. There is lots more to come, but your best bet would be to get down there soon ! Edit: Removed entrance details ~Wang [last edit 8/11/2008 5:59 PM by Emperor Wang - edited 2 times]

| | | 1) It is called "exploring". 2) It is a good way to ensure that the entrance gets sealed, and perhaps monitored. 3) Various other common sense reasons.

That's pretty much the way it still looks Phrenzee I was amazed at how EASY it was to get in. Where did you take your picture from? It looks like from a apartment balcony or something with a long lens????
GREAT picture mind you. [last edit 8/13/2008 2:56 AM by Boffo - edited 1 times]

Valid reasons, but please explain your 3rd reason. " Various other common sense reasons " On a side note... Have you ever been to Hamilton and been to this site? It's impossible to have the entrance "sealed" or monitored. It's a HUGE fenced in property. It's out of the way from neigbourhoods, it's in an INDUSTRIAL area, and basically all you have to do is JUMP the fence. But thanks for your kind information/words. I'll take it into consideration when or if I post any more places I find. Is it just me or is the old saying true... People who live in Toronto have this stuck up attitude about them? Maybe it's just me because I live in Hamilton, born and raised. I try not to EVER go to Toronto. The people are to snobby and FAKE for my liking. But other than that... You have yourself a GREAT day ! And enjoy yourself exploring ! Cheers ! =)

| | | Sigh @ the never-ending drama-rama. It's just the way things are done here, you don't give out entry info and you don't ask for freebies. It's not snobbiness, just the rules.
You betcha |

| | | You should have seen the Rod Mill a year or so ago before it was being demolished. Was easy to get in for a while, just jump a fence walk right in....... then port authority decided to step it up a notch with tons of fucking security. Now that its a bit more relaxed with security the best possible thing we can be doing is throwing around entry details.
Get a life, lose the attitude and don't ruin it for the rest of us.

| | | I'm very surprised there's still anything in there at all. As Boffo mentioned, the place was in a perfectly preserved state about 2 years ago when I first explored it. In the few months before demolition started, it was nearly impossible to get in. Security was incredibly tight and if you were caught on the property or even NEAR the property, you'd get into some pretty hot water. Intelligarde had the contract at that time, I don't think they do any more. I guess the current company is a lot more relaxed. I wouldn't worry about entry details too much. This place will be gone by the winter anyway.

I took that photo through the top-floor window of an abandonment that sits next to the Rod Mill.

You are missing the point. It doesn't matter where you are from, or if the place is out of the way, not around residential areas, etc.... The fact is, that people view this site of a security/law enforcement nature. And when they see something like that posted, they may up security. So sure it maybe easy to get into, and there maybe no way to seal it but they can sure as hell bump up security. A good example is Muskoka San. Guess what, a law enforcement type person saw it on here. Now the place is sealed TIGHT, and monitored more strongly. There rules are there for a reason. | | | Thank you everyone who explained my initial question with more of a EXPLANATION than just Well uh you just don't that's all. It's like uh just common sense????
What ever... Anyways.... Again thank you for EXPLAINING it to me. Now that I understand the reason, I'll be more "cryptive" lololol
Anyways... Phrenze... The picture looks like you took it from a angle like in the South West direction.... I don't see any 6 story building in that way. All I see is the burlington st overpass. The only other HIGH building I know of, is in behind National Steel Car... and I think that building is still active??? Anyways... like I said... AWESOME PICTURE !
Also I forget who posted the pictures of the mill back when it "looked" still active. i.e all the lights on and stuff.
Holy F***ing ! COW !!!!!
I would be in my GLORY if I could have found out about that site back then. Man I would shoot like a KAZILLION pictures in the mill. Only if I knew =(
Can I copy your pictures from here so I can keep them for my own files?
I use to work in a steel mill here in Hamilton. No not Stelco, nor Dofasco. I took alot of pictures of the plant I worked in. Wanna share? Email me privately.
Absoulutly AMAZING pictures man. You lucky bastard !

| | | Nice attitude. I'm new here too, but I've been on plenty of forums, and the first thing you do is read the fucking rules and decide whether or not you want to play ball. This is a privately owned/operated forum and the mods can set whatever rules they want. Your baseless sneering just makes you look like a pain in the ass punk. But you have yourself a GREAT day and enjoy yourself out there, LOLZZZ cheers rofl zomg wtf peepeehole.
