newbie needs tips from the pros :D

hey!

this is my first attempt ever to show the public some of my first shots, hoping to ear some constructive comments back from some of you who seem to be having some real great skills.

I didn't play much on these beside some modifications on brightness/contrast etc..

I assume I need to spend as much time on the computer as I do while going out and look around for the best shots, so any help here is appreciated too.

thanks!

#3 is very good.

#1 is a bit busy.

The one with the big circles is good, but you cut off one of them at the bottom.

Overall, good job, just try to work on composition a bit more. Remember: If a photo isn't good enough, get closer.

Hope I helped.

Not bad for a first post... definitely resize them. 800 x 600 is usually good...

I'll give it a shot. Beat in mind that these are all in my opinion and I am not exactly a pro

1.
This photo has alot of distracting stuff in it. There isn't a particular thing that grabs the viewer's attention. (aka.. 'busy')

2.
The lighting looks good on this photo, but the chair is positioned awkwardly in the photo. The bottom of the front leg is cut out of the photo, and also because the chair is really close to the centre of the shot it looks odd. I'd suggest a looking into the 'Rule of Thirds.' you can search those words on Google and probably find hundreds of photography tips about it.

3.
The positioning (composition) of this shot is really good, but guessing that the subject of the photo is the control panel, I'd say the photo is too bright. The subject of the photo is always of the greatest importance when it comes to lighting. A photo can be completely dark, and as long as the subject is clearly exposed for, it works.

4.
The lighting is really good for this shot, but I'd suggest taking a few steps back to get more of the lockers or possibly the window. (wide-angle lens permitting)

5.
This shot is a good idea, but it's crooked. Also, the tripod takes away from the mood of the shot.

6.
This shot is really cool. I can't think of anything I would change about it.

7.
This shot is super busy and kind of a boring subject.

8.
Look into the rule of thirds, and you'll see what could be fixed with this shot.
Also, the crooked-ness doesn't seem to work.

9.
This shot would have been better if more of cover thing was visible, but overall, the composition and lighting are nice.

10.
If the stairs are the subject in this shot.. I'd get more of them in the picture. Try taking the same photo, but with more stairs and less roof. The only reason being that there isn't much too look at on the roof .

11.
I love the lighting on this shot. I would have taken a step back if possible, to get more of the bottom of the stairs.

That's all I can suggest. Overall, They look really good for a beginner! Practice and a bit of homework make perfect!

The final thing I'd suggest is to actually post less photos so it's easier to do a more detailed critique.

"The time of getting fame for your name on its own is over. Artwork that is only about wanting to be famous will never make you famous. Fame is a by-product of doing something else. You don't go to a restaurant and order a meal because you want to have a shit."

I think in some of these cases, you should back up.

Oh right. I'm sorry, I forgot that mostly applies to street photography.

hahah fun reply micro ;)
looks like nel58 is recognizable by many of our fellow members, what a popular girl she is !!

Perhaps maybe I went too hard on you when I said I wanted tips/feedback from the PROs...maybe that is why I didn't get so many replies
but hey, I am not as popular as my friend I mentionned above so that may be the reason why !!!

thanks to everybody who took the time to look at my post.

see ya

First of all...cool location!

On the whole, I agree almost completely with the comments of Furious D, he's pretty well-nailed the key critique points.

the cam I'm using is a canon rebel xti (400d), using 'stock' ef-s 15-55mm lens.

Now my dream is all about me going in the store and getting back with a brand new wide angle lens.

For now, I appreciate what I have and I try to get the most out of my camera.

Once I 'masterize' it, I shall proceed with spending a couple extra bucks

thx again for your comments. very appreciated.

Some of your pictures screams for vertical shot. Just like #1 with a slight flash to get some light out of the stairs.
