| | | basic stuff... same salt that's used to melt icy sidewalks. Depending on range, it might break skin, probably sting like a bastard (salt in a wound). Not likely fatal under most circumstances.

| | | Pretty illegal in the US as it would probably be considered assault with a deadly weapon. Depending on the state, and if it's his property, he may have the legal option to use deadly force... he could forget to remove the double aught buck shot too. If your trespassing in residential neighborhoods or places that house people, you are asking for trouble. Very easy to rack up felony charges or worse, another reason I shy away from houses...

| | | Living where I do, I explore a lot of rural areas. Many of them are on privately owned farms and the like. If you sneak around, the owners will flip out when they see you. HOWEVER... If you drive up to their house, knock on the door and say their land is beautiful and you want to take some pictures. 999 out of 1000 times, they are only too happy to let you shoot to your heart's content.
It boils down to theft. I know in the cities it is hard to understand things like cattle theft and horse rustling to still be a serious issue. But move to WV and you will see that these issues are still very real.

Very true. Years back there was a notorious gang that use to steal tractors and high end lawn and farm equipment, The Johnson Brothers. I worked next door to the younger of the brothers who was ambushed by them with his girlfriend to keep them from testifying in court against the family. The GF was killed and he was shot 4 times, but survived. He wasn't part of the gang, but unfortunately was a member of that family, it was costly. The Johnson's make a "good" living doing that for many years, so yeah, theft is a real big concern. It's perfectly legal in most states to use deadly force to protect your livelihood. A little politeness and sincere interest go a long way to making people warm up to you. Rural folk tend to be alright people unless you rub them the wrong way.

Wasn't there a scene about this in one of the Kill Bill movies? Anyway, getting shot in the eyes with anything would be extraordinarily bad, so you're right to be concerned.

| | | When I got shot, i was 14. We used to sneak onto this pig farm, we made a "fort" in an old barn that was not used, the owner saw us going in and opened fire at us, i took a pellet to the calf, it HURT. But I was 14 so everything hurt a little more back then so who knows.

Well it is more like a pellet gun, at least the ones farmers use around here. They make pellets to fit the guns. Kinda like a bb gun with a lot more power and a salt bb in place of a metal one.

| | | A friend of mine got shot with salt First it hurts like hell, then it itches. His skin looked as if he was allergic to himself. He couldn't stop the itching for about two weeks... I think I like getting shot with bullets more

| | | Well I met Mr. Rocksalt. 'cept there was no salt - just a shotgun and a 50 year-old-man. He believed we were there to vandalize and when we explained what we were doing he had no worries. The school was not on his property, but because he and his family went to the school as children he'd figure it was his duty to protect it. It is scheduled for demo this summer.

| | | assuming one just removes the lead shot in a conventional load and dumps in some Mortons rock salt, theres not enough weight in front of the charge to burn the propellant completely so yeah, at very close range even the wad column might mess ya up but light rock salt wont shoot very far and it will scatter a lot as it flutters down range now if you wanted to load it from scratch, fast burning powder and roll crimp a heavy wad over salt and stacked tight fitting cardboard base wads you might get some velocity similar to the loads used for rubber buckshot

| | | From what I've seen, it leaves something akin to road rash and can take hair off of skin. When I was a kid, a neighbor in NM used to keep a loaded shotgun with the stuff. My dad had a donkey, well, it was literally a Jackass and it would get off the chain and go eat my neighbor's flowers. He shot it in the butt with a load of rocksalt, not very close, but not all that far away either and it took the hair off the animal's behind and left some pretty nice welts and scratches. The buckshot that came later my dad picked out of him with a hunting knife. Shael
