Yeah I carry a Winchester Pocket Knife with me. I do not know how it is there but in New York it's completely legal to carry one anyways as long as the blade doesnt exceed a certain length. But as far as a cop pressing charges or what not for having a burglary tools would be odd, because they won't normally do anything unless there is a private owner whom wishes to press charges.

I generally carry a swiss army knife on me, and am fairly happy carrying it. I figure as long as you can justify why you have it and it isn't obviously a tool for B&E (a crowbar or something..e) you should be fine

I always carry one of the wee swiss army knives on me just because it is useful to have about for when you need to get into packaging or cut something or any of the hundred of other jobs it is handy to have for. I carry a normal sized one exploring in case something goes wrong when it is handy to have a knife/screwdrivers/ec... on you, and if I am caught in an abandoned building, I can point out how I know this can be a dangerous place, hence wearing boots and carrying a penknife and so on seems a pretty sensible choice.

I would say if you are out with friends it isn't always nice to be persuading him into climbing stuff or creative entries (unless there is no alternative) when he really isn't happy with it, but I guess that is between the two of you (some people will do it because they don't want to let you down but really hate it, others just want a push to get over fears...)

Cool story though, good job for getting out there.
