| | | OK so this is a lil embarrassing, im a licenced plumber by trade and i'm not sure what this tray/tub/pan (see pic) would have been used for! 95% of the plumbing work i've do is residential or commercial. i have very little experience with institutional plumbing or fixtures. i've looked in my "Plumbing Fixture" guides, rough-in and reference books and have found nothing! this fixture is older, its not from my generation, and it would have had a faucet and an 1 1/2-drain fitted to it and a hose or sprayer on the wall behind it. its only about 4" deep, 6' long and stands about knee high...? Anyone know what this would have been used for? this picture was taken inside a Canadian sanatarium... thanks

They say "you can't judge a book by its cover!" I say "YES you can, if the cover has a girl on it with a cock in her mouth, its PORN!" if she's 18 and the cock is black, its GREAT porn! |

| | | It could have multiple uses depending where you found it. As it doesn't look much like a mortuary wash down slab, I'd say it's a 'shit bath'. Chris...
We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit. |

Sounds like a shit bath then matey. It's a way for the night duty nurse to very quickly 'clean up' the patient who's shat himself overnight*. It's a step up from a bed bath without the hassle of a deep bath; quick and easy. Chris... *Well, it's not exclusively for that, but quick washes generally.

I hear that a lot - but not once has it been properly explained exactly what type of therapy takes place on one of these slabs? I could believe that you could perform a wet-pack here*, but (in the UK at least) we stopped practising that pointless branch of water torture in the 1950's... So in what part of modern hydrotherapy does this slab play? //Seriously interested to know Chris... * And even then, you'd need more than a simple shower head attachment - and it seems a might too shallow for that also.

| | | Hydrotherapy FTW. Called everything from regulating table, douche, or Swedish slab, they could be used for everything from allowing nurses to bathe patients/wash their hair to just draping a patient in damp cloth and letting them lay in wet sheets for hours.

I don't think the original poster or anyone else said this device was modern/still being used for hydrotherapy.

| | | Not to confuse, I'm giving you its most likely recent use. I say again:
Posted by turbozutek It could have multiple uses depending where you found it.
|
Off a ward and it's likely to be a simple 'clean me up' (or slunge as they are sometimes called in Scotland) - whereas in a therapy area, well a multitude of uses are possible. I've heard of these in use (way back with Meths as the detergent) for treating bed-sores too. The only way to check if it was used for colonic irrigation (as far as I know), btw - is to lick it. Chris...

| | | OK, time to add to the confusion, this fixture was in a small room just off the main room(from the last pic), the small room was almost like a janitors closet, but it wasn't nor would it have been a washroom cuz there was no hand basin! what is it? Its NOT a toilet, theres no seat and as you were getting up or down you would have scrapped the skin off your back on the spout of the faucet! it was about 2' x 2' square, had a 3" drain, there was a faucet mounted to the wall along with a hose and spray nossel. the flushometre or the flush-valve, would have flushed water directly to the rim of the fixture. what would this have been used for?

| | | The second one looks like an 'after the fact' toilet. It's like a toilet that requires a middle-man. I used to be a CNA and we had one of these bad boys. It's used to wash out bed pans, emesis basins and other various containers that have stuff you shouldn't wash down the sink drain. The convenience of a toilet and the adventure of avoiding shit splashback. Good times! DC

PENIS VAGINA. no but use common sense sometimes.
also, for example. A drill is supposed to be used to make holes and screw in screws right? But with a dildo attached to it, it can become a DRILLDO. My point is, an item can be used for other things it was designed for.
so. mop cleaner, poo poo cleaner, vomit basin etc, you name it it was used for it.
now im off to google some drilldo videos....
