How'd we get here, and how are we getting out of here?!
| | | Re: some non ue pics cut em up <Reply # 1 on 3/1/2008 7:13 PM >
| | | I feel like one and two do nothing for me. I guess I don't see the so what in them, just not sure what I'm supposed to look at. Three I think the framing is off. It would be better is the ship was going into the frame. Also, it's slightly over exposed. Four, I like you the composition of the shot, but it seems like it was shot at too high of an ISO judging from the noise...

| | | Your subjects all seem really far away, and it's creating a lot of empty space. I'd suggest getting a lot closer up, for starters. Keep practicing!

| | | picture 4 was shot at 400 iso so thats why the noise. Pictures 2 and 3 were shot from a pier and that is as close as I could get.

What camera are you using that gives that much noise at 400 ISO? I don't get the much noise till almost ISO 1000...

| | | Gotcha. Sadly that's the largest downfall of point and shoot cameras, and with only 3MP that really limits the crop options. As for number four.... I dumped it through a noise reduction software to see what I could do with it. Here are the results:

| | | three and four have some nice color and contrast, i like three because the subject is fairly clear and the bright light against the blackdrop really help the shot. i tend to agree with the other folks, it seems like composition is at the heart of why these aren't magical yet. you may want to try shooting items you have better access to in order to hone those skills. in this case it's either that or get a larger lens to get closer without physically doing so. we can talk grain and all the technical stuff all day, but in the end you can have your quality and settings out of control down, but if your composition is poor the picture will fail, and vice versa. thanks for sharing and thanks for being cool with people giving you critique.

| | | I believe number four would look fantastic with an exposure time of five to ten seconds. This would reduce the train to a blur, reinforcing the idea that is is moving at a high speed. The pedestrians would also (I assume) move towards to approaching train, transforming them to a blur as well.

That I COMPLETELY agree with... But if you were gonna do that, I think it would work better as a vertical shot where the left side of the frame starts at the wall and the right side ends at the train...

|
SUGGESTION: Why don't you guys make a board called "NON-UE PHOTO CRITIQUE." I know this site is all about urban exploring, and maybe the members could go somewhere else for non-UE critiques, but they clearly respect the other photographers on this site and want their opinions. This is noted by the constant persistance of photographers to keep posting non-UE photos, even though they can read the board name.

Sorry to disappoint you guys but this isn't an image board. It's a forum relating to URBAN EXPLORATION. I don't think a General photo critique will be created anytime soon, but why don't you create a general photo critique private board instead ?
