'An' my friend. They are An archaeological find.
Is it so wrong to pretend that one is Dr. Jones Jr.? Or perchance is it considered worse to assume knowledge of a scene one doesn't quite belong to or understand? Your reputation here is already on the rocks sir, I suggest you hold your tongue even if you think our methods childlike.

You're going to attack me because I didn't use perfect grammar? I suggest you and your elitist friends fuck yourselves because no one cares about how "cool" you or the "scene" is.

With the exception of a few who have messaged me in private, this entire fucking forum is full of hipster douchebags with box-rimmed glasses like yourself and I want nothing to do with it. I only regret that people who want to get into UE are gonna run into morons like yourself and might start listening to the inane shit you say.

You guys can go listen to hip "indie" music at Paris on the Platte all you want, this scene is fucking lame.

seriously? this shit again?

to quote a line from a ska song: "if you hate me so much, then stop singing my songs."

if you don't like us, joe, stop coming on here just to rag on us and tell us how much you hate us. i'm sure none of us will hinder nor mind your absence, and i'm sure you can have lots of fun with your own holier-than-thou club, going around denver 'discovering' drains and naming them whatever the hell you want to name them. enjoy.

but know that you have lost pretty much all of your credibility in the community (or the 'scene', if that's what you choose to call it). and while you may not give two shits about it, i believe i speak for myself and others in the denver UE community when i say i no longer have any respect for you as an explorer, or for that matter, as a person. you come off as a whiny, immature jack-off who will run to the press and tell them all sorts of goodies if it means getting back at the 'hipster douchebags' you so loathe.

and for the record, paris on the platte can fuck off. as can you. good day sir.

Oh, Its tough for me to type I'm laughing so hard; You took that part of my post seriously? Wow dude. Why on earth are you so uptight about all of this? I can't speak for all, but I've never meant any harm. Does all this stem from the fact that you didn't do a little research before you went out renaming places that have had names for years? It didn't piss any of us off. I saw it as funny and understandable, but thought it was important that you change your info so nobody got confused. Did/do you have to? Not at all! Should you? Well, thats all up to you. Its just common courtesy, not anything more. You were the one that got all bent out of shape when several of us let you know that the drains in question already had names. I could have easily taken all the credit for the Brick Titan system since it had been a third explored for five years previous, but you guys finished it and I was excited that we had some new faces that were serious about draining.
As for the style of credit I follow, it isn't even my idea. I got it from the people over in Australia, most notably the Cave Clan who has been using that system since the 1980s. I learned most of the basics from Panic!'s website and Predators infamous drain FAQ.
I've been actively finding drains in the greater metro area since 2000. I looked for information on drains in Colorado extensively for quite a while before I started naming my finds. And so far, you're the only person who has had a problem with that. There was no collected, statewide scene when I started actively draining.
... but indie kids? Are you sure you've got a handle on what you're talking about? All the "indie" kids I've ever seen wouldn't be caught dead in mines or drains. Though I bet they would enjoy our photographs of abandoned buildings. Try calling SecretDestroyers, Apoxx, Chainsaw, Statik, DigitalMe, RockCrawler, Junkyard, Autowitch, or Twilo indie, and you'd be sadly mistaken. All of them have had scores to do with the development of the exploration documentation here in Colorado. Even if some of the people here are "indie" does that automatically make them fit your stereotype? I also don't understand how we are trying to be "cool". Hey guys - are any of you trying to be cool? If I wanted to be cool, I'd toss all of my Carhartt stuff, surplus junk, and muddy old boots and go buy a few Aeropostale polo shirts, $90 jeans, and a sports team hat to wear backwards. Oh, and some sandals. Or maybe I'd actually finish college and get a "real" job. I don't really think most of our lifestyles shout "Cool!" to anyone but the extreme few that can relate to our interests.

Simmer down guy, then come have a beer with us! The internet is evil, I'm sure you'd find many of us much less than nasty. I'd enjoy meeting your group in person, maybe we could even pop the infamous Zoo manhole?

Uh...have you ever met Akron? Sorry, no glasses. But it's interesting to me that, though you have a very definite preconceived notion of all of us, you've never come to one of our meetups. I can't quite grasp the animosity towards everyone on the forum, despite the insistence in coming back.

Agree with Akron. All those guys he listed I've for the most part and I think all but 3 have kids/legit jobs etc etc. They are the older generation and they kind of passed it on to us and helped us for the most part get a good foothold in the UE community.

Shut the fuck up and ride that fucking Couchmobile!

Well, this internet fighting shit has got to go.

My animosity stemmed from an e-mail I got from Akron early on saying that we should have done research about the drains we've explored. I thought this was absurd because pretty much all the drains on this site are only available to full members so there was no way to easily tell what had been explored and what hasn't.

Secondly, I thought it was kind of lame that anyone cared that much.

Basically DenverDrainers was made sort of as a catalog of drains Dave and I explored and sort of a little project just fucking around, nothing too serious. At the time of creation we weren't even aware of there being any local people into the UE scene.

My predetermined assumptions about the "scene" come from my associations with other "underground" shit. I'm just sick of this sort of subtle competition between people about who's coolest and who's the most extreme, etc.

I guess what it all comes down to is that though it may have appeared that Dave & I were claiming to name and explore these drains first, it was never anything malicious. We simply didn't know about other Urbex-ers locally or care enough to research. I never claimed to explore any places first, and even now on the site, the other names are posted for the drains others explored first.

Lastly, I was a little upset about the whole Westword incident because the guy contacted me on DenverDrainers after reading threads on this website. I thought I got a bad wrap for associating with this guy on a story he was writing long before talking to me.

The guy Jared said he wrote an article years back on the local UE scene and wanted a story on what's happening now. So I guess he read the thread someone posted about the guy dying at Gates and all the information he needed was here or around. I merely commented on a few things relating to the incident and my thoughts. I never told him or asked him to post my name or website, and he did anyway. I'm not even going to act like I mind him doing so, but I just thought it was lame that you guys would just assume I went to him with a story looking for fame.

I guess you can consider this burying the hatchet. Maybe I'll go to a meet up sometime and try to reconsile our differences. Expect updated info on DD about who explored what first, etc. It's not unreasonable to expect to be noted at least on a local site about draining.

Peace,

Joe

First, UE isn't that underground. So many people do it, and just never thought to associate a name with it. Secondly, I've been trying (what seems like forever) to get people together and have a sense of community here with Colorado explorers with little success. There is a lack of "scene" here. WE're all too anti-social or busy to be in a "scene" other than just the general geekdom that comes with subscribing to the title Urban Explorer.

Assumptions has never gotten anyone anywhere. No one is cool here. Not a single person I have met from this site has been hip. Just look at impreza. I mean that hat for crying out loud!
