| | Not sure if a building is abandoned or not < on 1/29/2008 3:02 AM >
| | | Recently, I've come to notice an old, run down looking building behind my school. It looks like an abandonment, the curtains are drawn and the lawn looks to be in bad condition. However, the porch light is always on. Even during bright, sunny days. Should I have a poke around? Pics to follow Edit: Whoops! I just realized this is a repost. I posted a thread on the rookie forum and couldn't find it in the BC/Alberta forum. I apologize. Would someone please delete this thread? Thanks [last edit 1/29/2008 3:03 AM by Ikky - edited 1 times]

| | | I'd do some serious scouting first. Chances are that if a light is on in the front, it's not abandoned. I have seen a fair number of abandonments with electricity though. Watch yourself around houses. It it is not abandoned, the police are much more likely to be lay charges in those as opposed to some regular industrial / commercial abandonments. Personally I stay well clear of houses unless a place is very obviously abandoned.

| | | place a full beer in the mail box or out of sight of the road. If this is gone in a week or so it is not likely abandoned. You can also go to city hall with the address of the place and find out who owns it. do a bit of research. If it turns out the city owns it then just say something like you were wondering when it would be up for auction or whatever. if a private resident owns it send a letter to the residence and wait.

| | | Is there a doorbell you could push? I like frugalfinnagan's suggestion, re: beer in mailbox. And it gives me a good idea...
