| | | How about the former Mountain Home Air Force Base ICBM annexes?! There's no better way to get the Christmas Spirit than by UE'ing old strategic missile sites while singing "Onward Christian Soldiers." http://www.techbas...untainhome_afb.php The closest one to Boise is only about 2 miles S of the Gowen Field (which also has a military history) Airport, at about: 43-31.78N / 116-14.33W & that was Site #3. For more info on these old Titan sites (& as well as other ICBM locations), scroll down to the Mountain Home AFB section of this web page: http://asuwlink.uw...imkirk/titan1.html http://asuwlink.uw...jimkirk/sites.html
Immediately NE of downtown Boise, off Reserve Rd, is Fort Boise Park, aka "Old Fort Boise Military Reserve Natural Park." There may or may not be some old military ruins to poke around at there.

| | | East of Fort Boise is the old women's prison and next to that is the Botanical gardens with their annual Xmas light display. I wouldn't call the gardens UE'ing, but it's cool. If the snow wasn't flying, I would say a trip to Silver City would be in order. You can still check out Idaho City if you are into old sort of touristy mining towns. Easy access from Boise. On the way is Arrowrock Dam. SW of Boise about 15 mile is Kuna Cave, a lava tube cave. GoogleEarth has it placemarked. If you want a photogenic abandonment, there's a small house on the SW corner of Franklin Rd and Cloverdale Rd. It's not much to explore, but it's state of disrepair makes a nice photograph. With all the development around it, it's hard to believe it's still there.
You can check out the missile sites, but they aren't much to see anymore. One's on private prop and has a residence on it, the other 2 are toxic dumps with only one still being used.

| | | Here are some more local leads: 1) NW corner of Robinson Rd and Locust Ln in Nampa-abandoned house, garage, chicken coop, and misc outbuildings. 2) North side of Amity Rd between Robinson Rd and McDermott, Just east of Dewey Ln.-Abandoned house, dairy barn with feed elevator, wrecked camper, misc outbuildings, and the longest and coolest loafing shed I've seen in awhile. 3) West side of Robinson Rd. between Powerline and Amity Rd.-Abandoned house, mobile home, outbuildings, and tons of junk, including a semi truck cab. 4) South side of Columbia Rd. between Meridian Rd and Linder-Abandoned hillbilly looking small house/shack with outbuildings.
All are easy access. I've been to 1 and 2 and not had any problems. 3) has keep out signs, but never seen anybody there.

I may have discovered the Ustick house yesterday. Has a house, outbuilding, and an old camper trailer. Tweekers stole the aluminum off the trailer, I guess. Is this the one?
There's another one around the corner, hidden in the trees.
