| | | Yeah, every time I plan to go to Fergusons Cove, I keep saying "Yeah, gotta check out Connaught Battery too." But when I actually get up there, I usually forget all about it. Maybe this weekend I'll remember...

| | | I think he's talking about the Bedford Bypass (101), I have an idea of where he's talking about, I can't remember the name of the place. I haven't been up that way in a while, but I think he's talking about that building on Memory Lane.

| | | That's the old Multi Service Center I talked about earlier in the thread. They have security stationed there, but buddy didn't see me when my old man and I went up. It wasn't very interesting while I was there (just a big hollow shell) but they have done quite a bit of work.

| | | Possible other hazard: owned by the Department of National Defense. Obviously they won't be as aggressive about trespassing as they would be at Shannon Park, and they probably won't shoot to kill like at Magazine Hill... But, worth a look I would say. I doubt the MP's patrol it much at all. The old forts south of where you've circled used to be part of the harbour defense system...

| | | That range finder on Flandrum Hill isn't there anymore. I was up there last month with a buddy to show him, and I almost sunk in the mud where it used to be. DND demolished it because too many people were getting into it. The door to the rear of it had bars on it, but one of the bars had been cut out. Besides, most of your info is wrong: - Front door accessable - possible roof access (but not recommended) - basement is barely accessable - 3/4 floors - a box that looks like it has been used to contain people (concrete box with metal door) (don't even know where this was) - No tunnel access from the Flandrum Hill tower. - basement floor has 6 rooms, 2 on the middle floor, 1 on the top, open roof system used to have a short staircase, and rails long the roof edge. But that doesn't matter anymore, cause it's gone...and I was pissed off that it is when we found it gone, that tower was awesome, and you could almost see Duncan's Head from that tower on a clear day.

The place has no security, except a police car that patrols that road every 3-4 hours. The gun batteries were known as Devils Battery, and one of them has an ammo elevator shaft that is open but blocked by the lift, and doesn't appear to be/sound like it's flooded. The dummy battery to fool U-boats was where the naval base at Osborne Head is now. And there's definately a tunnel system under Harlen Point, as noted at their website: http://www.hartlenpoint.com/history.htm [last edit 2/26/2008 3:42 AM by nootz - edited 2 times]

| | | No problem, but looking at the info, I think this "concrete box with metal door" might have been the emerg. escape hatch for the bunker section of the tower. It wasn't used to contain people. If I can find my pics, I'll post them.
