Maglight: cusomer service outstanding!

I just purchased a new maglite- worked fine, but 10 hours later, I take it out of the Impala, and the goddamn rubber cover is awol from the switch. So I get on line and register the serial # as suggested. In the "feedback" section I write" Great light, except that after a day's use, the rubber swith cover is AWOL". Sure enough I get an email the next day that says " Your switch cover has been shipped! " I am really impressed with this company. It probably cost 5 bucks to ship a 5 gram rubber cover, for a light that cost 12 bucks at wally world.
Register your light! These folks are on top of things!

i like my Maglights just rember to cleen, Inspect, Lubracate or replace (as needed) the o-rings when you replace the baterys. a thin coating of Petroleum Jelly to those O rings not only makes them last longer but may actuly improve the watter seal on youre light

slip a piece of thin rubber innertube on your C or D cells light, it will protect it and you won't freeze your finger holding it when it is cold.

Their customer service better be outstanding, because the flashlights they manufacture suck. The damn switch mech, or something either corrodes, or breaks, or whatever.

Does anyone else notice that a maglight after so many months of use starts to flicker -- and corrects when you tap it?

It's corrosion and poor contact inside the bulbholder. I get it a lot with my 4D mag. The one thing they got right was the package. I accidentally ran over the head of my 4d with my car, and it suffered zero damage aside from scratching some anodization off of the edge around the head. Try that with just about any other flashlight out there...

And I thought I was the only one who's had this problem. It has happened to a couple of 2D Maglites of mine, in the end something inside of the switches was so corroded that the flashlight was practically useless. They both pulled this flickering BS on me while I was steam tunneling (two different occasions), which is when I need a reliable flashlight the most.

dis-assemble and if there's any visible corrosion, scrape it off and rub the surface down with a pencil eraser, best way to clean the contacts (as I'm sure anyone who works with computer hardware already knows) Also I've always been a big-fan of over-compensating with the contacts. you know, bend em a little bit so there's a weeee bit extra pressure ensuring a good solid contact.

As many others pointed out, like so many other nice things in life, Maglites work much better when given periodic maintenance. Clean the battery contacts, and also the threads where the tailcap screws into the body. Should do the trick...

I disassemble, empty the sand from, clean and lube my Mag every month or so, and it's been working fine for about a year. Ditto the minimag I've had for years - battered and scarred and looks like crap, but still going strong, which is a lot more than I can say for my Streamlight or Pelican flashlights...

I notice the problem with minimags (2AA style) can be helped by removing the head and spinning the black plug around a bunch. The corrosion of the switch forms on a part inside this mechanism. Sometimes I'll have a minimag that refuses to turn on, but simply removing the head and twisting the black part a few times fixes it right up.

The problem with the larger versions (notably D cell) is that the electrical contact that provides power to the side terminal of the bulb has to slide up and down to allow the unit to focus. I've bent mine outwards a bit with a jeweler's screwdriver to give it a little more pressure to cut through the tarnish. A scrap of fine sandpaper would be beneficial here if you could get it in there.

I love maglights, theyve always been reliable to me and the wee little ones have fascinated me since I was very young and ive had one since. The larger ones (like 4D and higher) make me feel a little more comfortable while exploreing lol they just seem like if I had to itd make a formidable blunt weapon. and well theyve always seemed cool to me haha
