| | | Posted by JeepXJ ok, never mind, I see what they're talking about now. I was distracted by the door moving, and missed the "figure" that pops up in the area next to the door on the right. hrmmm... I'm going to go with my second theory now i think...

yeeaaahhhhh.....I know, I'll take grief for it too, but..I was kinda thinking the same thing. I'm not one to believe in the supernatural, but it just makes the most sense in the whole situation. the whole thing is just creepy to me!

| | | Posted by Raticus We need some Houston folks in here. Did anyone even know this building was coming down? I didn't know that. NV and I had looked at the building once but hadn't found a way in at the time. Couple years ago. If this is the same one I'm thinking it is. PS> Hope that wasn't any of our Houston folks.

I was totally unaware that this was going to/had happened. It is a comfort knowing that I did not know about that building prior to its death.
I think I should start reading the local news again.

| | | So what happened!? A whole day went by without any more mention in the news? Was it a hoax? CNN's link doesn't seem to work anymore. Is there a better quality video on the web?

| | | Raticus, This building is tucked back off of Holcombe in between Fannin and Main Streets. It has been operational up until just very recently. I've even stayed at it a couple of times. It was previously a Holiday Inn. I think the building you and NV may be thinking of is on Holcombe Blvd just a little west of here. It was an older hotel that was razed about 18 months ago to make way for a new retirement community. As far as the suicide theory goes. I wouldn't put it past anyone down there. Remember that this is a medical center and many patients that go to these hospitals (MD Anderson Cancer Center, St Luke's, Methodist) are terminal patients. While I was an inpatient at MD Anderson, a patient jumped to his death off a 12 story parking garage right outside my hospital room window....

| | | Ok I watched this several times there is no person visible in this video from this angle anyway. I think the cadaver dog woman was a little too optimistic lending an aire of support to the hype the media placed on the shadow in the amateur video which was a puff of concrete from one of the cutting charges.

Yeah, I'm thinking your right in that this is not the hotel I'm thinking of. The one I'm thinking of, I don't know the names of the streets but I know where it is, or was. The one I'm thinking about though was still there about a year ago when I was there. I was there back in June of this year but I didn't go to that area then. I was going to try to go back down there this month for a tour of a couple of locations, but I don't know now if I'm going to make it or not, at least not this month. If this one was in use recently, it sure isn't the one that I'm talking about. The one we looked at has been vacant for at least 3 or 4 years. 2X, I'm about to come to the same conclusion. I noticed the upchuck of concrete dust from that charge. The swinging door can easily be explained, and from the video link posted above, I just don't see anything. I would think by now they would have found some evidence of it if it really was s person.

| | | Wow, that youtube video is the best one of an implosion I have ever seen! I sure hope there wasn't anyone inside, but I'm doubting it. They said they did two sweeps of the building before demolishing it, so I'm thinking even if there was a homeless person trying to hide, he/she would have figured out what was going on and gotten the heck out of there. I hope.

| | | ^ I have found no article to indicate that. Search over at Crowne Plaza Hotel implosion site KHOU.com, November 19, 2007 11 News reporter Kevin Reece has the latest on the search. The search has ended at the site of the Crowne Plaza Hotel implosion. The search and mystery surrounding the implosion of the Crowne Plaza in the Medical Center began after home video showed some sort of figure running inside the doomed structure. The video was shot from a floor on Saint Luke's Medical tower across the street from the hotel. Some thought that moving image was a door swinging shut during the implosion. Although no one could identify the image, officials decided to stop the clean-up and launch a search. After days of searching, nothing was found. On Monday, officials ordered search dogs and detectives to leave the site. The demolition company was ordered to continue their clean-up.

| | | Actually, they probably were. There was an interesting study done on cadaver dogs. If there were no successes in a given search (e.g. dead bodies), the dogs would become depressed. They now give them routine "searches" where the dogs would be "successful" in order to boost their spirits. How unique is that?
