Loveland Sugar Mill

I don't know if this has been posted before, but it looks like the Loveland Sugar Mill was busted a while back for a Meth lab. That place has always been pretty sketchy, and I have always had suspicion. Huge signs saying "Stay Out" and "No Photographers". Unfortunately, those signs only peaked my interest even more and the one time I tried to go, I was chased away by some crazy dude who seemed to have a pretty close eye on the place. Now I know why and I am very glad I got chased away!

Anyone ever come across evidence of meth labs while on an exploration? It seems like this would come up more often since most of the places we visit are abandoned.

yeah, that explains a lot. they'd been pretty wary of photographers there in the past.

No reason to go back out there. Our time would be better spent at a different mill.

Subduction leads to orogeny. Duh.

Longmont mill is pretty trashed, but still fun to go to nonetheless. There are some homeless people that have made a pretty good home on the second floor, lights and everything! People do still work around the Longmont factory, and they have started welding all the doors shut. I have only found one easy entrance (unless you count climbing to the second floor).

Eaton factory is pretty trashed too, but the interior is in much better shape. That is probably my most visited location since it is pretty close and very easy to get into.

yeah when i went to longmont i saw the hobo hut and loved how they had the Christmas lights. there was someone dropping pipe when i was there so we didn't go much further than the hobo. did you see all the copper they pulled out of the heat exchangers on the 2nd floor? they dropped a at least 2 ton core onto the floor just to get the copper, must have been pretty motivated. i wanted to see the rest of it though, barely got into it at all

Yeah, it is pretty insane to see how much copper/metal has been cut/ripped/torn out of that place. You really need to watch your step to, because most of the stairs are in pretty bad shape. I have never been there while someone else has been there, but since I usually go alone (I know, I know) I wouldn't be staying for long if I heard someone else there.

Speaking of which, I'm compiling a history of the sugar mills in colorado. If any of you folks have information, it would be helpful -- especially old maps, diagrams, or cool historic pics.

See Part 1 here: http://www.ocf.ber...story-architecture

Part 2 and 3 are soon to come.

Ahh, "The sugar beet factory" as I once lovingly knew it. I was born in Loveland, moved away when I was 5 though, but I remember once after it shut down that one of the silos had not been emptied and the sugar turned to molases. One day somthing broke and the molases spilled out of the silo. it got all over the streets of Loveland and the black flys were awfull. The fire department had to come and spray off the streets to get rid of the mess. It is one site I'd love to get back up to and scoop, but the meth heads scare me, tweaker bastards.

the mill itself is pretty sealed up, ive been up to it before and didnt get chased away. it was a number of years ago though. best to stay away from this one, there are many "businesses" operating in there, and its right next door to the police station...
