Actually, I went over the section of fence with the razorwire, not the barbed section... But going around is a hell of a lot safer. If ya slip when going over it... I can only imagine the pain...

Heh, theres a cemetary with a low-brick wall with razor wire. You see at least one pigeon carcass a year. Unfortunately it's winter and they don't decay fast enough.
On the other hand, it's better than a keep out sign.

It also demonstrates the purpose of razor wire.

It's the closest thing to shooting someone for going on your land. In fact you've just reminded me of a particular photo from abandoned-places.com, of a bird skeleton.

Razor wire isn't bad if it is the cheap stuff, which when strung poorly is about as bad as barbed wire. The scary stuff I saw in South Africa last year was a razor wire mesh fence. This would take chain mail gloves and amazing boots to climb. Of all the fences and many types, this was the only one I didn't try to climb. If you ever see this, just walk away!

is that the stuff where the mesh is actually made out of razor strip, so that if you put your finger in one of the holes and apply pressure, you cut your finger off? Because I think I've seen that before.

The worse razor wire I have ever seen was outside an army base. It was like wire with stanley knife blades welded to it about every 10 cm. Nasty stuff. They had also weaved barbed wire in between the chain link fence.

An old trick for preventing criminals from entering is cementing broken glass into the top of a wall. I've never run into this sort of thing before, but I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has.

I have seen that glass trick in a old town once. This old guy had a hedge then a wall so if you tried to get on his property you wouldnt see the glass. Pretty nasty storys about kids getting cut up. Never exsperinced it myself.

The razor mesh is like a chainlink fence with a great many razor blades attached all over. If you tried to climb it you'd lose all your fingers and possibly your toes depending on your footware. The best I've seen is a ten foot tall wall that has five cattle fence wires, so if you should climb an almost umclimbable wall you'd get shocked. Sometimes the fences are just electrified wires and barbed wire alternating strung up every four inches for six feet but that is usually if you want to keep out other creatures than just people.

Glass on the top of a fence is very cool looking as it's usually the lower half of bottles and looks very decorative. It can usually be seen from a high place a couple feet back from the wall, such as in a car or standing on the cars roof.

If you ever need to climb a razor mesh fence or a electric fence I greatly recommend using your car to make a hole in the fence so you can walk through.

Oh my God! That razor-mesh thing is one of the most horrible things I have ever seen! From a distance it almost looks like normal fence, and if you were to make a running jump at it, you might not have time to stop before landing after you noticed. And that would just Suck! I remember times I've hopped onto a fence, grabed for the top and found out it was razor-tipped in a most unpleasant fashion, this would be Ever so much worse, it makes me shudder and my skin crawl.

I just can't get over how horrible that fence is.

Normally at this point, I would disagree for the sake of anti-vandalism, but I have to say, such an evil contraption as razor mesh fence actually deserves to be run over.

Hey hows it going everyone. This is my first post on the forum, very happy to be able to sign in now...got anxious waiting yesterday. I never knew this was such a big hobby...I was looking up "advice for infiltration" on the net and found this site. I have read near 100 threads in the last two days and have to say Im quite impressed. Anyway...BARBED WIRE! thats what we are here for. I came up with some ideas of my own in bed last nite and thought I would throw them on here for anyone that might want to try them out.

1) They sell thick rubber tubing at many hardware stores...Buy a length of 10 feet or so and cut it in half so you have two 5' lengths. Next, cut out a strip about a quarter inch wide along the side of the entire length of the tubings. When you need to get through a barbed fence, you can quickly place these on two wires to cover the barbed and take away the huge chance of getting stabbed. Another good thing about this is that if you hop some barbed wire fences, it damages and bends them so that the next day they will notice it, and your next visit to the spot might not be so ungaurded as before. Also: if you cant find hard enough rubber to do this job, you might want to save soda cans, and cut their side walls to glue them into the tube, the barbed will have less of a chance of puncturing the aluminum.

2) I guess I am more of asking on this one than telling...does anyone know of any light/small aluminum ladders or such that one might be able to fit in a back pack and pull out to hop a barbed fence? If the fences are too tall, the rubber tubing would work better, but if the wire are too close together I would rather get over the fence.

The reason Im so interested in this, is because with our newest trip, the only thing stopping us between entering and a quick escape is multiple barbed fences along the way. Last time I ended up running and jumping over a barbed fence that was at least waist high, but I dont want to keep doing that incase one time I dont make it >_< ouch...especially cause there are ditches on the other sides where I might break something.

yeah...a little too raph

All thr barbwire/razorwire topped fences I have run into here have been a minimum of 6'. A ladder really isn't a realisticly viable option for that...
The ones you're talking about sound like fences of farms...

yeah, the taller ones we had to have people hold the wires up and down to create space to climb through, but one of them was short enough to hurdle. Ill try the rubber tubing idea though and try to take pictures just so I can tell you guys if it worked or not.

Why not pull a move like fight club? I hate to be so cliche' but couldn't you just get a large carpet with rubber bottom and throw it over a fence? It seems logical enough....

Yep, rubber mats/carpet works fine, I still want some Tabi boots for actually climbing the fence though (my source in Japan can't find any in size 12 ).

The worst fence I've seen was one surrounding a NIKE launch site, the outer fence was chainlink with outward-bent bars at the top holding razor wire, and large rolls of razor wire along the base preventing you from getting close enough to the fence to cut it. The inner fence around the missile bunkers and the nuclear warhead storage bunker was topped with metal bars holding more rolls of wire. There were lights along the perimeter of each fence, and I wouldn't be surprised if one or both had electric fencing at the top.
Fortunately both gates were left wide open, and there were some holes cut in the fences from military training excercises. This tangle appeared to be from one of the excercises, but we couldn't figure out what it was for.

Turn off the internet and go play outside.

I've had a few run-ins with barbed wire and razor wire, and how to cross it depends on the situation I guess. For example, for the (censored) place in (censored), Minnesota, there happened to be some old storm sewers left over from what used to call the property home; and it is not necessary to climb the fence at all. As for the fences with the angled outward top lines of wire, try to climb where there is a gate. At the gates there will be (1) sturdy poles, (2) a gap in the wire, and (3) the outward angled top lines will usually be straight up. If the gates are guarded or monitired etc, obviously don't do it there. Once we climbed a tree and hopped over. A barbed wire fence doesn't have to ruin your day

As for that mesh stuff, fuck. If a place has that protecting its borders, maybe you should just leave it alone?

We haven't decided to try out the rubber tube idea, but went out last nite and used the step on/ pull up method and then just squeezed through. Only problem is the wire makes loud TWANGing soundswhen you do this. Anyone have any ideas about avoiding the noise? Probly a stupid question but...
