Barbed wire has been pissing me off for a long time now. Do any of you know of any particular gloves that are really good at protecting from barbed wire?

I thought mabey kevlar lined or something, but I dunno what's out there.

Get a pair of kevlar work gloves... check your local industrial supplier.

I know from lots of experience stringing barb fences that as long as your not talking razor wire or something that just a good pair of leather gloves will work. Personnally I like rancher/riding gloves the best because they fit alot tighter than garden gloves so you can still have some dexterity with your fingers. If you have a TSC or Orcheln Farm and Home around you go there. They both have the best selection for gloves anywere.

Glvoes to go versus barbed wire? Two kinds come to mind instantly... Welders gloves and firefighters gloves... both are conspicuous, heavy, but on the upshot, at least you don't get cut all to shit.

I have a couple of pairs of both kicking around here... i use the welders gloves when cutting sheet metal with my dad.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I'll try some of that out.

Would US law enforcement "searchmaster" leather gloves do the trick? They're kevlar lined apparantly, and I've just found some good deals on them on google...

I think you mean the "resister" gloves? The "searchmaster" ones are just your typical thin LE duty glove, as far as I can tell.

I tried on a couple pair of the kevlar-lined search gloves once, but didn't like the way they fit and flexed. They also got hot and sweaty really quick. Kevlar doesn't breathe. I'll stick with plain ol' duty gloves, thanks.

They'd probably protect you from barbed wire, yes, but they're designed to protect against razor/knife blades and syringes, and are made of a pretty lightweight (circa 2 oz) leather. You might not get cut by the barbed wire, but the gloves will likely get torn up quick.

Just go and spend the $10 on a pair of cheap welders' gloves, or hit up a military surplus store - Uncle Sam made gloves (gauntlets, really) just for people working with barbed wire... and some even nicer ones for dealing with concertina.

That is the sort of glove I am looking for, the type people use when they are working with barbed wire. Problem is they usually make them in horrid rainbow colors like bright yellow, red and blue. (I mean, it's just so ultimately important to have day-glo hands isn't it? Otherwise you might just forget where they are)

We use mechanics gloves. Good old cheap ass mechanics gloves when stringing wire. Or leather gloves. However if your going into pointy C wire or razor wire go for the kevlar lined ones. I cary two sets of gloves. Flight gloves and a pair of overgloves for rappelling. I just use the rappel gloves for barbed wire. However if you got to make a fast exsit your probably getting poked.

Yeah I've seen these really cool looking special forces type rappelling gloves, that have lots of padding, would they do the job or not? I don't want anything too overkill, just something that will allow me to get over barbed fences more easily...

Basicly anything hevey will work to get you over a fence. I have been debating kevlar because I go through gloves like sheets of paper here due to the fact Im the SOB moving C wire. Some reason I dont kill myself like others do here. Personally I believe the Kevlar ones will prevent many chances of getting tetnis because it wont sink in. Unlike the leather. Price wise a good husky pair of work gloves will do just fine for almost anything except razor wire... and it will work on razor if you know how to grab it when you climb... or grab through most of it. Let me know if I confused you or helped

Hm... I've never had to climb a barbed wire fence, but if I did, I'd be inclined to bring along a thick blanket or something to drape over it... maybe a rubber mat or something? Anyone done that?

The most I wear are some cotton gloves with rubber dots on the palm for grip... I just find that if I'm careful and deliberate in my movements, I don't end up cut. I've had more problem with the gloves themselves getting snagged on the barbed wire than anything... Tabi boots actually aid you in going over barbed wire topped fences, because you can stand in the links of the fence stably while you get over the barbs...

Yes I've ordered some tabi boots as well as a ninja uniform for all my stealth missions.

And thanks to Mark, yes all that info was helpful, I'll keep it in mind when deciding on a pair of gloves.

And UEM Tux, I am amazed you thought of that on your own! That is a trick which burglars and military use all the time. I've done it a few times myself, but using a footmat from a car.

You can use cardboard to cover up razor wire.

Very strong cardboard would be required for that I imagine. Razor wire is lethal. You need a liscense just to put that stuff up.

I'm quite familiar with Razorwire... with care, you can go over it without iron plated, titanium reinforced, kevlar, bullet proof gloves...

More like go around hehehe. Razor wire isnt as terrible as it looks. Its bad mind you but its like anyother wire it is more forboding then it is truely dangerous if you have some time to get over it and the right protection.
