| | | It wasn't clear to me what the purpose of this building was. It stands on the property of a currently active strip mine, between Cripple Creek and Victor, and is surrounded by various KEEP OUT and NO TRESPASSING signs warning various dire things. But it's set in an absolutely rural area with no activity, and the greatest danger I faced was scrambling up a pile of loose mine tailings to get to it. I suspect the building was industrial rather than residential, simply on the basis of the large metal tub we found inside filled with hardened concrete. The building was otherwise pretty empty. I still wonder what it was used for.

| | | I'm going to go out on a limb here. My guess is that the old metal tank was part of a cyanide leaching facility. Lots of them were filled with concrete after they were abandoned to prevent folks from getting into the cyanide. If I'm right, then this was most likely a gold mine, because they used cyanide leaching to remove gold from ore. Nice find either way!
I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread. |
