I recommend taking a clear photo of the front so any company logos or model numbers/names can be seen, or just google the crap out of any names on the box.. with company names model names and serial numbers of sorts I am sure you can find a rough guess of what the devices function serves..
Also on a side note.. People are going to jump down your throat regardless of any validity to a question, best thing is to just ignore the BS flak responses and just take what you can from the overall consensus and not take this crap personally.. After all this is the Interweb and people will go off on retarded tangents constantly..

If it was an alarm unit, it would be placed inside to prevent people from tampering with things.
