Legality of Respirators

Many jurisdictions seem to have laws which exacerbate a crime committed while wearing a mask. Has anyone had any trouble wearing a respirator while UE'ing (read: trespassing) when caught?

That is an interesting question. I would be interested to know what serious answers others have to say.

Hi, I've never heard of anybody getting in trouble for it, but here's my take on that situation.

Many of the places that are explored are owned privately or publicly, and their main reason for security measures is to keep people out of the way of danger. If you're in there and a wall collapses on you or you run into asbestos and get cancer and you try to sue, they'll either be found liable, or the public will become aware and the company will get a bad reputation.

Either way, you wearing a respirator shows that you are accepting that you know the risks of the site, and will limit the chance that you get hurt or diseased. This should limit your trouble with the law.

Now on the other hand, the fact that you're wearing a respirator...not found at the site...show's that your intentions were pre-meditated and planned out, which may get you in more trouble than a random spur of the moment trespass.

That's all I could think of for this, feel free to agree or disagree.

To be honest, all my exploring is pre-meditated and planned out. Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.

Me too...well 95% is anyway, but as for if you're caught, the security or police don't necessarily know it was preplanned.

Just having a flashlight on you can be considered just as illegal. I think it depends on how much of an asshole the person who caught you is.

Here's a lockpick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you.

ive never thought about a respirator as a way to hide you identity, but thinking of it i guess if your in some deep shit then they could use it against you, just the way they will use a flashlight against you, maybe from now on when i toss my flashlight i might have to toss my mask too... that makes me sad

I have a pretty good feeling that a guard who found me thought that I was a tagger or something, because I was wearing a respirator at the time. Never mind that I was framing a shot in my camera set up on a tripod... He asked why I had it, otherwise didn't say much (but he was a prick). Just a strong feeling based on his reactions, that if I was just there with a camera and nothing else, it'd be less trouble.

I try to fly as lightweight as possible, but there've been times I say damn I wish I had my respirator right now...

here in Hungary there were some serious protests and burning of cars on the streets last year, and for like a month or two the police were very cautious about respirators - since many protesters, troublemakers, rebels - call them how you wish - were wearing these masks against tear gas. they also wore gasmasks which made them almost impossible to identify...

now, here, if you get caught on tape wearing a respirator, the police will probably nag you about why you wanted to hide your identity.

Or, again, say you're an art student. Just make sure to bring a camera along. You know those crazy arty kids and there off-th-wall fashion statements... Lol...

On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.

And how much of an asshole you are when you get caught.

I have only been caught once, I told the cop in question, I am very sorry to bring you out here when I know you are already busy. He gave me a warning and told me that the respect i showed was the deciding factor in his decision to cut me loose.
