Hey I am heading up to cowichan lake (Vancouver Island) this sunday in search of a couple mines & caves in the area. (South side) I have some pretty solid info to find a couple of mines (Blue Grouse & Sunnyside) and I know there are alot of caves in the nearby area as well, but have limited info on locating the caves other than the general area in my backroad book (Which isnt the best source of info always ... I really have no idea how well explored these mines are as I dont know anyone that has gone in them, has anyone been there that can give some helpful info? or some info on nearby caves?

Hopefully some good pics to follow.

checkout "minfile". somehow combine the names with "minfile" on google, and see what you get. This can take a lot of research

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too!

Regarding caves; perhaps contact the Victoria Caving Club, speleological society, whatever they call themselves. Years ago I did some caving at Horne Lake. Well worth the visit even if you have to go in a tour.

There are many caves up island. I've never heard of any in the Cowichan Lake area, but maybe they have been discovered in the last 25 years. P.M. me if you want the name of the kingpin of the local caving club.

About mines, 'they' say if it's bored out of rock, it's probably safe(r). The ones with wood reinforcing are likely dangerous once the wood has rotted. And watch for shafts!

Good luck.

My sister is Charlotte Light and Dark. Who am I?

I'm a little late on this one, damn.

There's a provincial camping ground on Cowichan Lake, just past Honeymoon Bay. On the far side of the parking lot by the beach access is a worn road that looks like it goes nowhere. Its a good 20 minute hike to an old mine/mill in apparently pretty good shape.

definitely take a carbon monoxide/gas detector.
