| | Anyone here have a 35W HID spotlight? < on 6/19/2007 5:00 AM >
| | | One of those that looks like a common "one million candlepower" spotlight, but has a real HID instead. I'm getting one, but I was wondering how useful they're in UE environment.

I'd only really feel comfortable using something like that in a drain or tunnel, really... Even during the day, that's a lot of light to be shining around. Unless you feel very comfortable that no one is looking.

Yeah same. but I think it would be fun for looking down silos, elevator shafts, etc. It's just like this one: http://www.uer.ca/...asp?threadid=29728 but about half the price on eBay.

| | | I have one that I use for technical SCUBA diving -- cost $1600 cuz it's all waterproof & pressure tested to a couple hundred feet, etc. Anyway, it can be great for UE'ing when you really need to light up a large area, or light up a smaller area very brightly. Mine weighs about 10lbs (lead-acid battery pack...) and can't be used out of water for more than a minute or two at a time because the lens will heat up too much -- it's designed to have the water quickly dissipate the heat. /-/ooligan

| | | it works wonders in tunnels and drains, but its kinda bulky and they arent usually water sealed due to the amount of heat they generate. so i dont like taking mine down in drains that arent almost totally dry. i usually just try to stick to a 4D maglite + petzel headlamp + surefire G2

Just got mine.
The yellow thing = 6 volt lantern. This thing weighs in at 4kg/8.81 lbs and gives you about an hour of portable sun before it needs recharging. click for full size. This thing is HUGE.
Puts a one million candlepower halogen spotlight to shame.
