Does anybody know anything about Shelburne, Nova Scotia?

Hi ladies and gentlemen,

I'm stuck in Shelburne, with not much to do. So the other day I went for a walk, and found a nice driveway with a private property do not enter sign, so I entered the private property. Up this driveway/road thing, I found a complete set of abandoned buildings...an academic building, a few residences, a gym, and a few houses, all in good condition, and nicely sealed up, but definatly abandoned. Does anybody know what this place is/was?

Also getting bored of not being able to find a way in anywhere except by smashing a window, which I wasn't prepared to do, I decided to take a stroll down an old overgrown dirt road through the woods, and found several rundown buildings which I have no idea what they were, and keeping down this path, ended up at the big red water tower. Now, does anybody know what I am talking about? I certainly don't, I'll put up some pictures when I find my USB cable.

Google Shelburne School for Boys or Shelburne Youth Centre. There should be a security guard there 24/7 so watch out.

There are some old bunkers behind that facility as well.

Thanks for the info, sounds like they're going to try to do something with that spot, I don't blame them, most of the buildings are in pretty good shape. I didn't run into any security guards yet, I did however find a very occupied public works/transportation office but that's about it. I guess those ruined buildings were old navy barracks or something like that.

Are you from around Shelburne? Do you know if there's anything left to the Forces base that was there?

The transportation office is where the security hangs out. I've been through the whole site, but it was with permission.

I was also through the forces base as well. That was a long time ago. If you google Shelburne and Sound Stage/Film Studio you will probably find info about it. There should be security there as well. Not sure what it is like now.

There was an school in downtown Shelbure as well as one in Barrington Passage. There is also another smaller school out by the Shelburne ship yard area.

I might go down there when I take some vacation time next month. Depends on what's going on when I take the vacay.

haha, if that's where they keep the security, they're doing a heck of a job, I walked all around the place, including that building, nobody asked me what I was up to or anything.

Today I found some bunkers on some atv trail or something next to the water, they were all sealed up, but nice to find unexpectedly anyway.

Sounds like the actual forces base was way down at the tip...Sandy Point is it? Might be a bit of a treck for me, but we'll see how the weather operates.

As for you nootz, Shelburne has some nice things to see, along with some not so nice things, I wouldn't plan a long vacation in Shelburne itself, but continue around the loop. This is my fourth week being here...be gone next Thursday with any luck, its getting to be a little long.

Oh ya, if you're looking for something to do on vacation, I did this tidal bore rafting thing up by Shubenacadie last year, it was pretty fun, except we had to dig our guide out of some quicksand before as he was getting drowned by the wave...other than that though, fun times!

Well, I'd only be going down there for the day, 'cause I live on the Eastern Shore. But I love exploring old military bunkers and facilities.

Right on,

I haven't found anything too extraodinary yet...all the bunkers that I've found are sealed up with big concrete blocks. I haven't made it down to where the Forces Base used to be yet, hopefully there'll be some more stuff there. As for the navy barracks buildings, they're interesting, but there's not much to them. Anyway, its still worth the trip, you never know what you'll find or where you'll find it. I've pretty much stayed to the dockyard side of town, and I only have a 4 more days to explore, then its back to Newfoundland!

I know the school your talking about out here by the shipyard, I was investigating, but its surrounded by a trailer park with lots of nosey trailer park boys, and dogs that love to bark at anything that moves, I'll see what I can find downtown, thanks for the tips.

Hey, I am from Shelburne and the school that is downtown isn't there anymore. And as for anything else there really isn't too much to check out.

If there's not too much to check out then I guess I didn't too special, I'm gone now, but found some interesting stuff while I was there...4 weeks is a long time to spend in Shelburne if you don't live there though.

Well, I think I'm going down there some time soon (if it's on a weekend), because my mum is buying some Nickelback tickets off her friend down there, and I'd like to go explore that old base, even if people say it's "nothing too special"
