Sea to Sky Highway upgrades

Does anyone know if there are now some abandoned sections, from the straightening and upgrading of Highway 99 for 2010? A few weeks ago, someone mentioned something about the old span heading to Horseshoe Bay.

I found almost nothing on the 'official' government/propaganda site.

Thanks, A.

If you look over the 2 bridges(horseshoe bay bound), to your right, between the headland exit and eagle ridge you will see two sections of abandoned hwy one, abandoned in the 70's. It's best to be a passenger for this one, as the road curves a lot. One of the sections is the old Westhaven creek bridge, and the other the nelson creek bridge. There is also the horseshoe bay BCR tunnel very close by, and worth the walk.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too!

I don't know how to get a picture of a specific section on google maps, but if you type in 2000 cranley drive west vancouver the dot appears just south and a bit west of the old bridge.

(and know I have no idea if that's a real house)

Put it onto hybrid and immediately above where it says upper levels highway 1 (north west of the dot) there is a curved line in the woods. That's the bridge, and north west of that is a water treatment plant.

I always accessed it from the neighbourhood walking trails below and if you can find a parking space and don't mind a touch of a walk I'm sure you could too. Based on Toad's info I assume that one's Nelson Creek bridge.

Hope that all works...maybe I should just learn how to use google maps.

Thanks for that LH, I meant to reply sooner. I didn't get the Google map before, but trying now it shows up. Kind of creepy how some hikers found a murdered boy's body near there.

Don't know what hybrid is, but you guys info is a great help. Once there, things will start to make sense.

1997 under the Nelson Creek Bridge in West Vancouver. ... The hikers were traversing the Cranley Drive trail when they discovered the body. ...
