| | | Hehe it'd be great if you could pop security's tires from a window on the other side of the building and then make a quick getaway or entrance while they were pre-occupied... They'd never know what hit em', especially if you kept doing it to them over the course of the night and they ran out of spare tires..and then maybe had to call for backup or police... and you could pop their tires as well!! It'd be madness! Madness I say!!..... well... unless they saw the highly concentrated beam of light..... ;-p

OR this...
The M-32 multiple-shot grenade launcher, a six-barreled weapon that can deliver six 40 mm grenades in under three seconds. The LAPD is currently using it to stop dust heads, and to end high speed car chases; you know it works!

| | | I have a 30 and an 80mw green.... Not quite legal, but Questio Quid Juris? The 80 can cut tape, or light matches.... If held very close. As in 2" - works fine, 2" won't work. Might pop a dark-colored balloon at that range, but.... its a definite might. They point at things very well though, as they make a beam rather than only a point. However, this goes two ways, as they beam also points at you, making you very obvious. I have used them as flashlights though (because I'd forgotten my flashlight. shh), and its nice to be able to light up objects behind the foreground, so that you can see what would be in the shadows more easily / see the end of the drain. Also, makes for some interesting camera shots.

| | | I have a "nexus" 95mw from wickedlasers that I got from a friend, and a modified 5-30mw green that I forget where I found. the 95 burns human skin, lights matches, cuts tape. Battery lasts about 2 hours if it was possible to use nonstop, otherwise, I don't change the battery much. Supposedly goes something like 40mi. I have found no real use for it yet, other than when I had an astronomy class, I could use the thing like a pointer, because everybody in the area could see the beam no problem.

| | | If you had a somewhat powerful laser could you shine it into a building to trip PIR motion detectors? If you could you might be able to activate them enough for security to disable them. Or they could get fined by the city for false alarms.

Measurement, getting AF locks in low light, and light painting are the only reasons to pack a laser.

Arrrggghhhhh you are SO wrong. I have a 75mW laser from www.dragonlasers.com that can pop balloons. This is video of a 125mW burning all kinds of stuff, not mine http://www.youtube...atch?v=VIRTbb3H27Y Come on, tell me Q would never give this laser to Bond?!!

| | Re: LASER <Reply # 36 on 7/31/2007 7:10 AM >
| | | Laser pointers are actually rather helpful. I myself use mine to measure distances in tunnels. They're especially good at determining how far a particular drain carries on for curving. Of course you won't get any quantitative values without special gear, but it's still better than seeing nothing. You can also spot bushes and plants on the ground by sweeping the pointer quickly back and forth in front of where you walk without being seen as easily as you would with a flashlight. If you have a green laser, you can do all of the above, though with far more ease and affect (though less subtlety, as you would expect from a brighter light). Stargazers routinely use the visible beam to point out constellations to friends, so it's not impossible to use it to tell your friends which building in the distance you're going to explore first. As for lasers as tools to cut things... the power sources would seem to unreliable and bulky to honestly bother with, considering a lighter and knife would both do the job so much better with so little hassle. In the end, if you have a laser pointer, it's light enough to bring along if you can think of use for it. And if you have a green laser pointer, then it's obviously cool enough to you to want to bring along just for the hell of it, though it's very doubtful to be an essential aspect of your kit.
