I'm looking to buy a night vision scope with IR attachment. Does anybody out there has any experience with these scopes? I need any information on types, prices and visibility in complete darkness.
Thank You.

I would guess, from the number of views and no replies, that nobody has any experience with such things...

I think people are hoping you were talking about it, not asking about it.. all I know is it's expensive, and if you are doing night missions it probably would kick ass.. then again flashlights work well too(they are like welfare night vision ). But yeah, for secret missions like the wraiths do, I would want it, that's forsure.

My digicam has a night vision mode with some weak illuminators, and that is suffient for about 90 minutes of navigation, although I'd take a flashlight over that.

Some night vision googles would be sweet. Too bad I'd probably have to rob a bank to get the money for them.

I've heard from an old friend that they're not horribly expensive. If I remember what he told me (and if it's accurate) you can get an entry-level set for a couple thousand dollars... I'm sure that the sky is the limit when it comes to the price you _can_ pay.

If you're a truely dedicated explorer, a couple thousand dollars might not be too harsh of a sacrafice though.

I have more important things to spend money on, and a really bright flashlight and assault rifle for taking out security is far cheaper than night vision.

I think some peoples definition of "not horribly expensive" is slightly different....

I think I'm a dedicated explorer and dropping a couple of grand for an entry level set would be ridiculous for me. I don't know how much your making, but if I had a choice between the goggles or a down payment on a new car or my college education, would you like to take a guess as to where it would be going?

You can get monoculars for a few hundred, and crappy Russian monoculars for less than a hundred. Just duct tape them around your head and there you have it: night vision goggles.;)

Sorry about my grossly rediculious ideas of inexpensive. I'd expect to spend that sort of money on my other real hobby, guitar. I have strange ideas of value, I can say.

I perhaps should have worded that post a little better.

I'm not rich, just casual about how I spend the money that I do have.

That's what I did. I bought a Night Owl Compact scope at Wal Mart for about $160.00. It's an awesome product.
IR attachment built in so one can see in total darkness. It uses 2 AA batteries.
This scope knocked my socks off. I totally recommend it
to anyone who is looking for affordable and effective Night Vision device!

I was in Radio Shack today and I saw an awsome night vision scope for $325.00 canadian. I would buy it but I don't have the cash and if I dropped it it would smash all over the floor and that would be sad. But the idea of night vision is very cool, especially for drains where there is no light ever, but I will stick with $3.99 flashlights for now.

I've come a long way from when I first found UE, but I'm back.

You can get very high quality monoculars for just around $500 dollars if you shop about.

Simply a matter of knowing what to look for really. Image intensity, IR illuminator as standard, impact resistant waterproof shell, etc. etc.

Dear Chasey Lain, I wrote to explain, I'm your biggest fan, I just wanted to ask; Could I eat your ass? Write back as soon as you can.

I'm on my second scope. My first was a Tasco Gen 1 that I pointed towards something too bright. My current scope is Russian made, waterproof, floats if dropped. Also Gen 1.

Check www.actiongear.com or a similar site. Expect to pay a few hundred for Gen 1, thousand plus for Gen. 2 and 3.

Most, if not all, scopes have an IR illuminator attached. A cheaper (though not over the long run) alternative to the illuminator is IR Snaplights (like normal glowsticks-but they are in the IR spectrum). Downside: $3 a pop.

It's easier then you'd think to fry your scope, so be careful at what you look at. When in doubt, use the lens cover with a small hole pricked in it.
