Double Arches

From the Interstate the double arches looked impressive...

Upon closer inspection, however...

I had no idea that an arch even existed in C-Springs.

Northern

Southern

This mess less than a mile from the arches...

...from the top...

I like the brickwork of the arch. You should try to find out when it was built. Maybe there are records of its maintenance somewhere.

heh...I think the springs is gonna win the "most drains" award for the db. ;P

Pueblo has some cool lookin places, but for some reason this town likes to board everything up. Makes it boring for me.

Indeed. Half of em are either mine, or in some way connected to me (photos, story, etc...)

This bridge likely dates from the 1880s when Palmer dropped the Denver & Rio Grande tracks south into Colorado Springs. The re-aligned route is about a mile west along monument creek. The Vincent street bridge used to be (old) Denver Highway back in the day before 25 was built.

There's a shorter set of those in a drain in Denver. Pretty fun to climb.

not so much the concrete itself, but the natural creekbed its going into. a lot fo drains here dont have churns, and the concrete is fine... But the creekbed the drain outfalls into is eroded a lot more.

Is this near Dublin deep in a neighborhood west of Academy by any chance? It shows up real well on satellite maps. The beginning of the ditch is Dominion dr and Academy. if this were part the same system - let me know!

DUDE. A couple of my friends and I came across an opening just like that at night... We about shit ourselves. Turns out it looks pretty much exactly like that, but a little longer. Biggest dissappointment yet. Hell, it looks so much like the ones we went under, I thought it was at first.

...yep. In the very last picture you see Dublin. If you go through that tunnel you end up in a ditch that separates east and west bound Dublin.

Interesting. I can provide a (google earth) KMZ File if so desired. It has most of the more signifigant drain outfalls in the city.

I believe these structures are called baffle chutes (in case anyone cares). Came across the term while doing research for a paper I never turned in.
