| | | Just wondering, as I have many friends that are left-handed, and usually have a lot of stuff in their house set up differently than mine, being a right-handed person, if being left-handed has any affect on one's ability to UE and/or technique.

| | | Not really for me. I've learned to become pretty ambidextrous over time and about the only thing I actually do left-handed is writing. Everything else I'm more comfortable with right-handed tools. I heard somewhere that left-handed people have a significantly shorter average lifespan due to most tools and such being right-handed. Dunno if it's true at all though.

| | | growing up left handed in a right hand world has messed me up: baseball, football = throws left baseball = bats right (can switch hit but not as good) tennis = right archery, rifle = right (right master eye) handgun = ambidextrous (trained to switch to left eye) writes = left only (I cant even scribble my name right handed) eats = fork left knife right arm wrestling = either way but I usually win left more often tried bowling a couple times didnt feel very good either hand so I never pursued bowling or golf... UE = well, most cameras are made for righties but who needs cameras anyway? adapt and overcome!

I don't really see what the difference would be, aside from the fact that one would probably perform the actions in a way that's oriented toward their left-handedness.

Funny you say that. When I first started to draw around 2, 3,4? I was a lefty, but an older friend "corrected" me, and turned me into a righty. I really think that has given me problems over the years; there's no free lunch for lefties and us wannabes

| | | Doesn't affect me... But then again, I don't have things in my house set up for better left handed access. Not even my mouse. Nothing irritates me more than a left-handed mouse. So I guess I write, eat, and brush my teeth left handed, but I'm functionally ambidextrous.

apparently not an uncommon practice in the day my elementary school also tried to convert me until my parents intervened with a note from the family m.d. in any case it has not hindered my desire or ability to draw or explore (and I still have a wicked mean slider and curve ball) I forget about guitar, I learned rightie cant imagine playing left or upside down like Jimmi Ive also heard the higher mortality/life expentancy thing, not sure what to make of those stats, could be true maybe there are more clumsy lefties I go through moments where I drop stuff and cant pick it up on the first grab etc check back with me when Im 72.5yrs or whatever it is

Just don't smoke or drink, or eat at Micky D's, and you will out live all of us Righteous f**ks. Have none of you seen that sticker, or quote, whatever: 'Lefties do it right'... We all have our *quirks. They should make left handed chainsaws, flamethrowers, submarines, and guitars. No one is better or lesser because of which hand is dominant for them. Most cars here are LHD, is that not like, a major victory for y'all? I'm right handed, but use my left eye to look through the viewfinder, and my left hand for certain pleasurable activities. Like bird whashing, or throwing a frisbee. Pardon me, have had a few. Got worked up over the Virginia situation, and decided to hold back on my mini rant/essays. Less intense subjects are sometimes the best to tackle. I had a left handed cheeseburger the other day. It tasted fine. *differences I mean.

| | | I am ambidexterous but I am predominantly left handed so it is considered cross-dominance. I like that better is sounds funky kinky, ambidexterous makes me think of reptiles. The only things I can't do well right handed is write but you can still read it and polish my nails on my left hand. It is kinda fun to. My boss at the machine shop stopped watching me do things. He walks away mumbling something about me cutting off a finger doing things all upside down and backwards like that. I don't think left handed people have as many issues with the ability to do most things because we learn to use both hands due to the fact that the world mostly favors right handed people. Right handed people just think we do because we look odd to them when we do things left handed.

I think you make a valid point. Adversity forces you to adapt, and even become stronger than you would have otherwise.

I'm sorry, but that statement is completely false, I'm left handed, and if a tool is right-handed, then I adapt. But most tools nowadays are universal, you can use them with both your left & right hands.
