This is not stuff from expo, but it is from the same era, so probably people that were at expo used this at some point.

Chouette musique. C'est toi qui joue?

Je me suis promené un peu et certaines personnes ont convertis les films de leur "ciné", avec le constant et sonore toc-toc-toc de la projection et craquement d'époque.

Hi. I'm not an urban explorer and sorry I can't write in French but I come here often to look at the great pics you guys post.

I was eleven during Expo67 and I spent a lot of that Summer on those two islands. It was probably the best Summer of my childhood.

So, what about another Expo? Expo2020. Benoit Labonte, the leader of the opposition party Vision Montreal has proposed such an idea.

Here's an article in French about it, http://www.corusno...al-1147423-27.html

And one in English, http://www.cjad.com/news/565/782869

You know if Mr. Labonte wants to make this part of his election platform I'll be voting for them.

Well I won't be voting for Labonté ever even if my life depended on it. Labonté is an opportunistic, old boys' politician and doesn't about anyone or anything except himself and his friends. According to his own political ads, his biggest acheivement consist in switching the recycling plastic recipient to plastic bags. Plus these ads are the worst I've seen from any politician in 20 years. Quite a shame for a guy that spends tons and tons of money in hiring a FULL TEAM of PR spinsters to guide his every move.

Also, there will never be another Expo 67 in Montreal. This was a one time deal and it happened as it did thanks to a number of factors being reunited all at the same time. It will never happen again. Labonté would like to see his face all over such an event because it would be good PR. But that's BS. Trying to hold another Expo would be ridiculous and a total disaster as everyone would compare it to Expo 67 and well, it could only be a bit less that Expo 67. A bit less grandiose, a bit less spectacular, a bit less of tourists, a bit less of all really.

Oh and if you still have any doubt about Labonté, perhaps you want to check this site, which dates back 2 years ago, when citizens tried to get a bit up for Montreal to host Expo 2017 (for the 50th of Expo 67)... So I guess that's another idea that Labonté stole (again). What's new, hmm. This guy is a total fake, a waste of time, a non-leader with no vision whatsoever.

If you think Montreal is a pity with Tremblay (and I agree), seriously, don't vote for Labonté cause all hell will break loose.

Yes, the Expo17 site. I have been there before. Several months ago I tired to stir up some interest about it. I contacted the PM's office, also talked to Alan Desousa. That really didn't get anywhere though.

I had reservations over the Expo17 plans. I thought the people here would prefer a home grown idea as opposed to an idea of a group from Vancouver. Maybe that's why Labonte chose 2020?

I'm not a political animal and I don't know Labonte. But as a friend says, "Gov'ts are going to waste your money anyway so you might as well try to get them to spend it on something you want."

I never say never again anymore. Too many times in my life I had to eat those words.

No, there never will be another Expo67, for it was last century's way to do an Expo. If you want to see how its done now, look up Expo2010 that will be in Shanghai.

There are almost two generations on this continent that have never experienced an Expo or have any idea what it is. I think our children, and their children deserve that great memory that you and I hold in our hearts.

Montreal is a great city, and to be a great city occasionally you have to prove it, again.

Obviously, this is another Baby boomers' idea to "relive the good ol' days". Montreal can't host a new Expo as long as the people that experienced Expo 67 (the boomers) are alive. Or else, it will all be about comparing and so on.

On, and by the way, it's pretty clear to me that Labonté wants another Expo 67. If it wouldn't have been the case, he wouldn't have been giving interviews over and over holding the Expo 67 passports of his parents!

We tend to forget a few things here. Of course, Expo 676 brought a lot of good to Montreal. But the subway was being built BEFORE we got Expo 67. Place Ville-Marie was being built BEFORE we got Expo 67.

The 60's were an amazing period for Montreal. with or without Expo 67 (which by the way, we officially didn't get, but managed to save when the city that was chosen pulled out/got pulled out, which explains why everything was done in such a hurry).

Labonté says that Montreal is missing some leadership and vision, yet all he offers is to arrest homeless people and switch to new recycling plastic bags instead of the current "bacs verts". He wants big projects that would galvanize the population?!?!!

Here's a few suggestions for him and his PR team :

1. TRANSIT SYSTEM THAT WORKS. Bus that are on time and that works. 24h/day subway, more subway stations and more lines. Oh, and of course, an extended network of TRAMWAYS. It's sad that he doesn't take the STM to work every day, it would offer him a new insight on the torture Montrealers go through.

2. PEDESTRIANS FIRST = quality of life. Labonté wasn't hot to the idea of closing Ste-Catherine and the merchants had to finance the closing themselves (remember the crappy "you can only see X cheap beer cause it's our sponsor" thingy at the beginning of the summer?) and he vetoed an application to close St. Paul Street. Now he's all excited and wants to claim credit for the thing. Pfff. It's more than time we get on with the program, that Labonté puts his balls on and the city close the Ste-Catherine from at least Guy all the way to Papineau. Oh and St. Paul St. obviously, too.

3. GRIFFINTOWN. Rezoning of Griffintown for mixed usage. Just freakin rezone the darn place. That's all that is needed. Just a vote, you rezone and the whole place will start to live again. Too simple for him I guess.

3. BIKES, BIKES, BIKES. Tremblay is doing well on this front now. But the upcoming "véli'b" which will have the most idiotic name ever will only be implemented in a few boroughs, with only a few number of bikes available. Oh and it's done by a semi-private corporation which own objective is $$$$. And contrary to what they said, Mont-Vélo (yeah, it's one of the 5 finalist names for the thing) will not work all year round. And more lanes, of course.

4. Talking about Expo... What about just preserving what's left of Expo 67, that would be a good starting point, wouldn't it? We can't even maintain the Place des Nations correctly, and what, we want a new one? Come on!

5. RESPECT YOURSELF. The city needs to stop to bend its own rules and follow them. That, would truly be audacious. Stop adopting crazy PPUs everytime something is wrong and just follow your own rules...Examples : Notre-Dame Blvd, Viger train station, Griffintown, ...

6. HELLO? URBANISM DEPARTMENT??? When the municipal structure changed, Montreal abolished its urbanism service. No kidding. 1,6 millions citizens, no "service de l'urbanisme"...I'm still speechless about this one.
