Just wondering if the Deck Park Tunnel has ever been explored by anyone ?? I am fascinated by this strange tunnel, and would like to get some background on it and possible info on security i.e. is there any ? motion detectors ect..

If you have any info on this location please post it ... I will be going there this weekend to check entry points.

Hey that was my idea you took!
Anyways wikipedia says they have security cameras. But I think this is only to monitor the traffic conditions. They most likely have the middle tunnel cameras turned off if there are any in the middle tunnel. Be careful about searching for access points, if you try to access from the freeway you have a high chance of being caught for obvious reasons. Look for surface openings in the park above it. They have vents and I would guess an emergency staircase. Also look for manhole covers in the park since they most likely lead to the tunnel underneath.

"The tunnel has a large diesel generator approximately 50 meters east of the westbound entrance to the tunnel, ensuring that the lighting, video surveillance, and intercoms have continuous power even during an outage" wikipedia

http://phoenix.gov/fire/20515a.pdf

"Bus Transit Tunnel
There is a single Bus Transit Tunnel between the two vehicular tunnels to service bus traffic. This tunnel will not be in service for some time and has large fence gates at each end of the tunnel to restrict access. Gates will be large enough to allow fire apparatus to enter. Gates will be chained and padlocked. Companies can easily cut chains to make emergency access to the tunnel. It is extremely difficult to turn fire apparatus around in this tunnel.
Four access doors provide access from this transit tunnel to the vehicular tunnels (two on the eastbound side and two on the westbound side) and are located approximately one-third of the way in from the vehicular entrance/exit points. These doors are locked from the transit side in order to avoid having unauthorized personnel open a door and step into traffic. A lockbox with keys in it is mounted next to the door.

"Each tunnel has mechanical ventilation. There are four ventilation rooms, two for each vehicular tunnel, that control air flow. Normal air flow is drawn into the tunnel near the middle and flows to exit points at either end of the tunnel. Air flow volume is determined by carbon monoxide readings. The higher the CO levels, the greater the air flow. The Bus Transit Tunnel does not have any mechanical ventilation.
Each vent room controls the following functions for 1/4 mile of its respective tunnel:
• Lighting
• Ventilation
• Fire Detection
• CO Monitoring
• Emergency Telephone Communications
There is an Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) that provides "bare bones" bridging power between the loss of APS power and the start-up of the generator. Each vent room has a smoke detection system in it that transmits an alarm to the ADOT control Room. No automatic functions are initiated as a result of this alarm activation."

"Vent Room Access -- Each vent room can be accessed from the surface via the structures on the deck. NOTE: These rooms have essentially one way in and one way out by means of a long stairwell. There are two separate levels to each room that go to a depth of 35 feet below the surface."

"The ADOT Control Room serves as the entry point for the main electrical switch gear. It is located below the Central Avenue overpass on the south side. Access is from the Deck Park ground level. The control room also serves as a control and communications center for the tunnel. It is staffed 24 hours a day. The control room has video monitoring capability for all points in the two vehicular tunnels (not the Bus Transit Tunnel). In addition, all of the electrical, mechanical, detection and communications systems are monitored and/or controlled"

"There is no direct surface access into the vehicular or transit tunnel other than through the east and west vehicular entry/exit points. (There is access via the vent rooms, but it is not easy, and the ventilation system must be shut down to allow personnel to walk through the air plenums--not a viable option.)

"There are two doors per tunnel which allow movement between the vehicular tunnels and the Bus Transit Tunnel. These doors will be unlocked from the vehicular tunnel side, but locked from the transit tunnel side. Lockboxes are installed next to the doors on the transit tunnel side."

"Each fan room is accessed from the deck level. There will be lockboxes located on each access building."

"Lighting in the freeway tunnels is on 24 hours and controlled by the ADOT Control Room. There is no lighting in the center Bus Transit Tunnel."

"A video monitoring system has been installed throughout the tunnel. There are cameras monitored at the ADOT Control Room, and are on a sequential switcher. If an incident occurs, the operator will have control of the nearest camera and can monitor the incident. All of the cameras will be recorded on time-lapse recorders, but when an incident occurs, the camera being monitored switches to real-time recording. Incident video recording can benefit the incident critique process."

"There are five below-ground facilities related to the tunnel operations. Four are ventilation fan room operations. The fifth is the power and equipment room (Central Avenue) and is also the ADOT Control Room location."

So I guess this greatly helps you. the best action would be to go at an ungodly hour in the night w/ you as a pasenger in the car. travel in the lane nearest the transit tunnel and jump out when you pass the transit access door and enter the transit tunnel. You will need lights and something to smash/open the lock box to get back out.

Hi -

Thanks for all the info. I am more curious now then I ever was to get inside there. But upon reading that information, I am not sure that it is doable at all. It sounds like the only way in is via damage to the property, and it sounds like you have about a 90% chance of getting caught on video. And those 24 hour control rooms right next door dont help matters. With the property damage a guy would cause to get inside ... you could get arrested for breaking and entering.

I will sill go and check it out at the gate ... and take a few shots from there. But that is probably as far as I am going to take it at this point in time.

Cheers

To be honest, I work on the UPS or Uninterruptible Power System for the tunnels security and air flow, theres alot of bums topside and you are not getting in there. plus its not B & E or even trespassing, its a federal offense because its an act of terrorism if you break in. I wouldnt try it.

I've driven by it many a time and wondered what's inside as well...but getting in sounds even harder than I imagined and the risk isn't worth it. Nice find with the info though!

That's bullshit.

I mean, I believe you, and your probably right, but "terrorism", c'mon...

I've always wanted to go through there, ever since I was a little kid, maybe I'll muster up the balls to do so one day.
