Oh, and MS-13 is definitely a good excuse to do some running and hiding. Or some indiscriminate tossing of hand grenades over your shoulder as you run away, to slow them down. I'd rather interact with a homicidal Satanist cat killer than a 14y/o gang recruit.

Please don't be stupid. It might piss me off so much that I have a seizure or something. I hate stupid people.

I've one for you.

'I narrowly escaped a beating from a homeless guy walking around this old gasworks with a rather solid looking table leg. I sucked wall next to a window as he walked past peering into all the buildings looking for me. As he went around the back of the building I packed my gear (you never realise how loud zippers are until times like this) and evacuated quite quickly.'

One incident in 5+ years... I wouldn't be worried about it.

Proper way to deal with the situation, even if you are packing. Whenever possible to avoid or stop a confrontation, you bug the fuck out.

I'm afraid that if you feel compelled to carry a weapon while exploring, perhaps you are participating in the wrong hobby, or you're exploring the wrong neighborhood. The weapons simply must be kept away from UE for the greater good.

I really hope I don't run into explorers packing heat. I don't want to get shot because I accidentally snuck up on someone with teeny tiny bollocks and a glock.

I'm not saying you don't have the right to explore in sketchy places or protect yourself, but as I've seen mentioned, you can improvise a weapon fairly quickly. And what about good old fashioned disappearing?

But I can see no justification for a gun. If it's really that dangerous, don't go.

Your ignorance is most apparent. If you think your not susceptible to crime, I also might suggest you take down all the smoke alarms where you live. Honestly someone will come by and wake you up if the buildings on fire right?

First off people don't compensate with firearms, or every cop, and soldier have small dicks then and the brain capacity of a Lenny. I can tell you there a lot of pregnant women due to the LE/military, so I doubt thats correct. Secondly most people who do end up going through the course to carry concealed understand the idea of having that responsibility. You can't just draw a weapon because there is a bump and you can't tell what it is. That goes for knives guns mace etc.

Stop thinking a person with a gun/knife/mace is a fucking gang member, or insecure. I know women who carry guns and are sweet girls.... ohh thats right they secretly lust to grow a penis and join a gang. They are made to believe by the sweet seductive drug of gun powder, that if they hold a gun it will change there DNA into a man.... right?

You read to much propaganda and have some phobia because your ignorant. Thats like saying we should kill all spiders because they scare people. Absolute absurdity.

Next point, what about Mace? Your ok with bringing tripods, mag lites etc which can and generally are just as lethal as firearms.

I hope, one day you sit down and look at both sides stats, LE stats, and take a bit of common sense and work the reality out for yourself. Until then remember assault with a deadly weapon could be a pen, tripod, mag lite, knife, or gun.

Your first responsibility is to not put yourself in a situation were you may need to use deadly force if at all possible. If it seems too dangerous, it prolly is.
Defending yourself while trespassing is a very sketchy thing legally that could land you a 5+ year prison term.
Rotted flooring, etc. is often more of what you should be concerned with.

If two men fight in an abandoned building, and there are no other witnesses, were there ever two men? Was there ever a fight?

To add to that..would you prefer 5 (more likely more) years of prison time, or death?

There are a LOT of variables in a lethal force situation. As a private citizen, you will have to justify and defend your own actions in court. There really is no such thing as "innocent until proven guilty". You will be assumed to be guilty of murder, and "the authorities" pretty much have to punish you somehow, to reassure the sheeple that they are being protected. I don't want to cross the line into condoning illegal acts, but a dead crackhead is a dead crackhead, and won't be given as much investigative attention as a dead "productive citizen". If you don't call 911 and say "hi, I just killed a man in a knife fight", or something equally fucking retarded, you have more options.

If your already committing a crime in many states and packing a gun, the mandatory 5 year statue kicks in. You don't have to be in a fight.

Just by looking at some of the posts here and on other weapons threads here, many aren't ready for the responsibility that comes with packing. On the street with a carry permit in most states your first responsibility is to avoid confrontations. Then to retreat if what so ever possible. Use of lethal force is sanctioned to; protect yourself or others from the threat of death, and in so cases to protect your means of livelihood from being stolen.

You don't pack to trespass, ever, unless your a harden criminal or a fool.

I'm not referring specifically to carrying a gun. You can kill somebody a lot of ways. Yes, carrying a handgun is illegal in several states. That may change soon, but killing someone is still a big responsibility.

i can't argue with most of what you say. i think that most who carry guns would agree with you about the avoidance. that is always my policy, having been a cop i am aware of what is what legally in our state and would do almost anything to avoid the court system [i might meet an old friend, and that would suck].

As for the advice about leaving the scene of a shooting or trying to hide or alter evidence in a death.........there is always trace evidence and you never know who might have seen you without your knowledge, so don't do it. CSI might be a goofy show, but forensics investigators can link you to a scene and all cops aren't stupid donut bags. if you do get caught after leaving the scene or trying to alter or conceal evidence you WILL go to prison.

Just from quick Googling, 57% of murders in my state are solved with an arrest. I'm not advocating fleeing the scene or hiding the body, but in my personal opinion, 57% odds is a LOT better than I view my chances of coming out with nearly the same quality of life after a criminal and then civil prosecution for offing someone when there are no witnesses.

You have to be safe when your in abandoned building, lights maybe even a hard hat. I won't advocate people buying guns and running around buildings, unless they are prepared. A renowned expert in self defense shooting said every bullet has a lawyer attached, and he is right.

Also having anything construed a weapon will fuck you as well, crowbars, multi tools, mag lites etc. If you injure someone you might see more time in jail then you do if you killed someone, depending on things.

Make a respectable and honest conclusion about what you NEED. Just be safe sane and don't go overboard.

Also on a note even if the guy is dead tell the cop you want him arrested. In court they have to say that you said that, and juries will look at your actions in a better light. Because we don't arrest the innocent(or so they say).

I pay a legal firm a small amount of money every month, so I have access to a special number to get someone to come get my ass out of lockup if needed at 2am. The paperwork they give out advises that you refuse to make any statement to the police, beyond "thank God you're here, he tried to kill me!" and "I'll be happy to make a statement and discuss any details after consulting with my attorney".

Honestly, it's less than 1/8th of a week's pay to be sure that someone will be available to come bail my ass out.

Astoundingly, I am going to agree with you on both counts.

Mark,

Your lack of reading comprehension is apparent. I did not say that people with guns (and by proxy soldiers, cops, etc) have small genitals. You inferred that all by yourself. I was implying a person with a gun who is quick to fire irresponsibly lacks intestinal fortitude (i.e. no balls).

I support responsible gun ownership, and have trained extensively with competitive marksmanship (7.62mm FN-C1A1). I still believe that any weapons should be left at home unless you're exploring Baghdad under direct orders.

Cheers

What kind of unit were you in?

Ramadi was not the place for being hung-over.
A "what do you bring to a gunfight" thread would be a much better place for such dickwaving.

If you find yourself where your life is actually on the line, not some beatoff looking for a fight but someone who wanted you dead, I figure the best way to handle that is to defend yourself in every possible way and make the person work for it.. Deal with the legalities later, good quote my friend liked alot was "It's better to be judged by 12 then carried out by 6" I wouldn't bring a gun with me ever, but my state is REALLY anal about guns in general so it'd just be flat out dumb.. I carry a knife but more as a tool then a weapon.. If I get jumped I am going to grab that broken bottle, I'll throw sand in the face, grab that pipe.. I don't look for fights but I /strongly/ believe that if one is forced upon me I will end it as quickly as possible with as little chance of damage to myself.. fight dirty and fight to win
