| | | Ninja uniform help < on 12/15/2003 5:21 AM >
| | | I guess this is the right forum for this... So, any of you guys that have a ninja uniform for missions (Jester's the only one I know specifically), I went out and bought one tonight. When I got home, I had no idea how complicated this thing actually was. It had some simple paper instructions, but they weren't exactly helpful, so I have a couple questions for any fellow ninjas... The hood and mask thing... Mine has a stretchy mask that goes over you head, then a hood that goes over, you pull one side over the other... Well, there's on string on one flap of the hood... How exactly are you supposed to tie this thing? I muddled through it by wrapping the string around my neck, but that felt pretty odd, and there wasn't really a good way to tie it. How is it supposed to be done? Also, I have a couple hand covers with some elasticy material on the upper cuffs. Is this supposed to go over the tunic sleeves or under them? It seems to me that with the elastic that it would go over them, but my little instructions show them going under, which seems really odd and not seamless like the rest of the outfit. Any help would be appreciated. --WR

| | | It's actually a common misconception that I have a ninja suit. I do not. I do have ninja (tabi) boots, but thats as close as I get. Scarab has a ninja suit, and I do remember that it took him some experimenting before he figured the hood out properly... I'm pretty sure the hand guards go over the suit if I remember correctly.

| | | No problem. I'd actually love to have a ninja suit, but in some shades of grey like my woodlands camo. But they don't seem to sell one like i'd like, so I'll have to make due with what I have.

| | | Okay, as entertaining as that was... Does anyone actually know how the hood is supposed to go on other than looping the damn thing around my neck and tying it. Personally, I'm not into that whole auto-erotic asphyxiation thing, so it tends to feel pretty weird the way I've been muddling through it. --WR

| | | umm i know where he got that.... www.realultimatepower.net just the most INFORMATIVE site about ninjas out there, in fact I haven't seen anything so detailed in my whole life!!! Sept maybe that urban exploring group that is so extreme that they explore their own houses. But these people know their stuff about ninjas.... Actually I am somewhat curious does anyone know where you could buy a ninja suit online? Cause that would just be RAD to have a ninja suit. Yes, yes I said rad.... As for the putting on of the ninja suit. I am at a loss I am sorry to say. P.S. Those of you who do look at that site, It is not real. None of it is real. Sept the pictures of course. I don't think the descriptions are right though. And I think the hate mail is written by the creator of the site. He tried to stage a law suit a while back. Pretty clever site though. | | | eeh...you ever seen those ski masks that only cover the lower part of your face? it's made of a rather sturdy fabric and has little holes to let you breath. if you can buy one of those you'll only need to use cloth for the top of your head and you'll be all set!

| | | Hood/Mask: You really don't need the hood at all, the mask alone will do fine, but if you want to wear the hood as well, I'd put a small hole in the bottom corner of the hood opposite the string, then feed the string through that. Arm covers: These go under the tunic sleeves, and the little loop on the far end goes around your middle finger. They're designed to keep your hands hidden but unobstructed by gloves, etc...

| | | If you're not putting together a traditional ninja suit, go with a Spandoflage head net (avail. through most military surplus stores). I have one in woodland camo, and its very effective.

Good point. Rather than running around abandoned or even active sites dressed as a terrorist, I have usually found it easier to dress inconspicuously as a delivery person. I worked as a pizza guy for a while and got some great UE done (on company time mind you) while in uniform carrying a pizza delivery bag! Also, I have developed quite a liking for various uniforms of local and national security and delivery companies, most of which have been found at thrift or seconhand stores. I am most fond of my UPS uniform, but alas, it is a short sleeved shirt, and until I can find a UPS winter coat I can't really use it in the winter. I also need to find one of their fancy-shmancy electronic clipboards to carry around, but I've had no problems thus far with just an ordinary clipboard. Remember, when in uniform, and someone asks if they can help you, you are always looking for a room in a different building. You never know if the person "assisting" you will be heading the same direction! Also, a word about security uniforms - don't get caught by security! They know their own employees and impersonation is usually a severe offense. This goes double if you happen to come across a police uniform, as I have. Impersonating a police officer usually comes off with jail time!!! Otherwise, I'd suggest your local Goodwill store and find a costume that doesn't look so "ninja-ish". A janitor's outfit may be the better choice. There are also cataloges issued by the uniform companies with wider variety of selections if you don't want to go with used clothing.

| | | Mountainman, with all due respect... the stealth/camo clothing vs. dressing like a regular Joe has been gone over roughly a kazillion times on the forum in the past. The idea of wearing the ninja suit or camo is for missions where you don't want to be seen. When I'm on a mission like that, I wear my camo because it serves the purpose that regular clothes won't. But when walking around with the expectation of being seen, then wearing clothing that makes you fit in or appear as something other than an explorer is the way to go. Impersonating an officer is a very serious federal offense...

| | | Jester, I asked about the ninja outfit for a very serious reason. We're living in a post 911 world. Everyone's still jumpy. Myself, I'm in the army. There's lots of excellent buildings to UE on the base I work at. However, if I'm on rounds, and I see someone skulking around in a ninja outfit, or a cam pattern I don't recognize, I don't stop firing until the dirtbag stops twitching. As for the civilian clothes thing being done to death, sure it has. But why do people feel the need to act like a ninja and not be seen, when waltzing through the front door in plain sight can get you everywhere you want to go? Trust me, a Telus hardhat, a buttphone, clipboard, tool belt, and a picture pass have gotten me into more places no questions asked than a uniform and a security pass at the very place I work. Methods are different, sure. But if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Also, how do you avoid thermal imaging devices while ninja-ing? There's a lot more of those things out there than one may realize. I've installed dozens of them...

| | | I think the whole point of camo/ninja outfit is that you are not going to a place where there is any pretext for you to be. A ninja outfit serves much the same purpose as Camo, it is simply a matter of which you are more comfortable in. When there's absolutely no reason to be somewhere, then not being spotted is the only option, and in those cases camo or a ninja outfit could be the most useful things to wear. Quiet, and blend in well with surroundings. -The Lost Flock
