PTZ domes?

A place i'm going to UE has one PTZ dome mounted up high, right in front of where i have to go under the fence to get into the outer area, before moving to the entrance to get inside, and its the only entrance. last time I was there, i went in anyway and paid it no attention. normally, i don't give a damn about cams and just walk by them, but i got to wondering - I know the PTZs have motion sensing and can follow you... but, what if they're pointed away to begin with? if the cam is pointed away from you when you get within range, will it just stay there, or are there other sensors scanning 360 degrees that can detect you so that the cam can spin around and track you?

just wondering if anyone thats worked in security or something could shed some light on this.

most ptz cameras that i've worked with er either manned (some one actively watching and moving it around) or programed to move to certain points back and forth. While it's possible for it to be motion activated, i've never seen one.

thanks

I found out about the one i was worried about. I was actually in the security office and checked out the monitors, and it just stays stationary. it actually doesnt even cover the area i was worried about!
those ones are just scary... you never know where they might be looking!

most that i have worked with are not motion sensitive (if the are still the intellex software can be used for a motion search later) they either have a patterened path that they follow or are entirly still.
unless there is someone on the other end though they aren't gonna catch you unless they are looking for something bad that happened.

now there are alarm activated ones that work in relay with motion sensors or door alarms or touch sensors on fences.... these will spin and look at you if you activate there alarm.

okay, thanks alot guys. usually i dont worry about cameras at all, just because of the fact that they only actually go back and check the footage if they know something's happened...even then, they're mostly useless), but those domes freak me out a bit if im unsure of whether or not someone migth be watching from the other end

a good flash light from the bottom and you can usually see the direction the camera is pointing... if it's at night a decent laser pen will blind the camera for like 3 seconds

A motion tracking camera really wouldn’t be that hard for a security camera company to make, surely they must be sold somewhere. This is a similar idea: http://www.thesentrygun.com/
