Red Light District Tunnels (Old Colorado City)

The Old Colorado City section of Colorado Springs used to have red light tunnels connecting the north side of Colorado Ave. to the south side. These tunnels were used to access brothels and taverns on the south side of the street.

I have been to the Colorado Spring's Pioneer Museum and dug around in their archives. I have been to the Old Colorado City Museum. To the Old Colorado City library branch. I have even walked down the street asking shop owners and workers if they have any information about these tunnels. I have found a few places that used to lead to the tunnels. A few business owner's claim to have basements that once connected to the tunnels. I have however not discovered a single building that has access to these tunnels. All entry appears to been filled by road construction or barricaded off.

Has anyone successfully gotten into the red light tunnels? I have some great leads but am unable to find an access point or someone willing to give a tour.

(Please remember that posting a point of entry is against forum rules. I am just curious if anyone can confirm they still exist.)

Most are long-bricked up. Good luck on finding access points seeing as most building owners have bricked em up and construction has filled them in. Maight still be a couple open "rooms" but I'm betting that most tunnels are no-longer and filled in. see http://www.csindy....1-05-24/cover.html for an old Indy article on this very subject (as well as draining in the area)

Hmm interesting article. I hear that one of the tunnels is still intact though.

I've heard theres stil a tunnel in Manitu thats open behind a waterfall somewhere. Sorry I can't be of more help. A 15 yr old girl told me about it nearly 3 years ago so I can't claim any truth to it, but locals know a lot.

In that fire in Colorado City (a few years ago) one of the tunnels was opened, but was quickly sealed. They're still there, but I haven't found any way in (and I've even been able to check a few basements).

I know about the tunnel behind the waterfall. There's not much there. It's just a natural pocket behind the waterfall - the spray keeps it just barely above freezing and it's a real pain to get out of.

However... near there....
