Tunnels under Dal?

I have read a lot about university service tunnels. Anyone know if Dal has any such tunnels? I know there is the normal student tunnels but I wonder if there is anything deeper.

Any ideas? Thoughts?

I go to King's, so I am right next door and I haven't heard much of this.

My guess would be that if there are any that are not open to students, they would be between some of the older buildings on campus. I doubt that when they built the CS building, or the McCain they had tunnels in mind.

Based on the campus, because it is so spread out I can think of only 2 or 3 locations on the main Studley campus that there might be tunnels, and that would only be between two, maybe three buildings.

i havent really hung around dal much except their library.. does the main student tunnels have steam pipes along them? if not there should be more tunnels.. i know the hospitals use their steam tunnels as tunnels to walk to each building inside.. boy are they annoying to walk through on hot days.

yeah if there was any there wouldn't be many. I've just read of schools further out west that had them and figured maybe out own large school might.

I'm skeptical about the existence of these tunnels. I've heard the same rumors and I've even went looking. The rumor I heard had an entrance to the tunnel located somewhere in the basement of the library. There were some suspicious locked doors in the basement but no real evidence of a tunnel entrance or system.

It's hard to tell really, you have to look at campus size and need for them, as well as age.

The Killam and the SUB building are roughly the same era, where the Administration, Science and Alumni building, the three that sit together farther up campus are of an older era, so I doubt they would connect the two, especially because I think some of it is under the walkways anyway.

But then you have to consider that some of the buildings sit on a hill, I know beside King's just to get up on the Dal Campus beside the Killam I ALWAYS have to walk up stairs, and the buildings go under the stairs so unless there are steam tunnels under those I doubt there are many, if any.

A friend of mine who worked for Dal for a while in the network systems office, he claims he’s been in the tunnels before as they carry network cables. I grilled him about it and he said the security is pretty high, motion sensors and the usual.

Did you get a sense of how far down they are? Or are we talking just hallways in the sub-basements that no one has access too?

If they just carry network cables my guess is they aren't very old and thus aren't very deep. If they carry piping we can only hope they are as old as the buildings, which themselves aren't terribly old.

He swore they ran from the Killam library to the Tupper building. And there are entrances into every building except the Comp Sci building. I’m having a hard time believing they go all the way to Tupper, I’ll have to pester him for more details, but either way, I don’t think you have much chance of getting into them undetected.

I had a look at the floor pan to the Killam basement today, and it looks like there are plenty of un-marked rooms and locked doors that could lead to the tunnels.

It just struck me.

I have a long-time friend who has almost unprecedented access to the entire SUB building.

I'll look into this.

I doubt there is much connection to the SUB because its so new. But, who knows, I said there was no such thing as downtown tunnels and I was wayyy wrong.

I think I've looked at the same Killam floor plan. In the basement of the building? There are all sorts of doors down there that could go just about anywhere. But, last I checked, they were locked.

I have a friend who claims his friend accessed a tunnel under the Killam. When asked for info, of course, none was provided.

What vintage is the Killam?

The Sub can't be much younger than it I wouldn't imagine.

Really? Near the Bio wing of the LSC? Will it be obvious to me or is it hiding?

Nevermind. Found'em myself. What a long walk. Pretty standard steam tunnel but it goes everywhere!
