So I have been eyeing this monster for some time. I walk by the monster and stare at it on a daily basis. Tonight was a beautiful night when I started, a nice clear full moon. What better night to get more shots of the series I am working on and conquer the monster. So I headed out my MP3 player going, a little solo exploration is good for the soul. As I walked up to the monster I quickly took stock of my foe. It really was not all that intimidating but as I discovered I had slightly underestimated its prowess. The climb was a slow one, not only did I have to take care not to wake the sleeping residents but I had to be wary of the awake ones.
I made my way up as quietly as possible stopping occasionally to be still and listen.
Scaffold is not the quietest stuff to walk on but after awhile I saw my goal within reach. Hey is that the West Georgia building in the distance and Shangri la?
Finally I reached the top and the horrible monster had summoned a fog to stymie my photo attempts.What I have been wanting to do is get shots of the city from high places using towers as reference points.
I found my way into the elevator room, not really my cup of tea but i am sure the gearheads would like this one.
I climbed up a little obstacle and shimmied along to the top of the elevator room. I was surrounded by the soup so what to do. I jammed out to A Forest by The Cure (12 inch version), drank some water, and had a victory smoke.
I really love the reflections in this shot. Quick fact: did you know the reason The Sheraton Wall Center has two different glasses, one black and the rest clear, is becuase the city of Vancouver has a bylaw saying the glass past a certain height must be clear. This of course is becuase a big black tower would be a blight on the pretty skyline.
Getting down was much easier as the hatch was there and opened as many do from the outside. I rode down on the elevator feeling exhilarated.

The West georgia building...AKA the Newport City Club...Is down to the final two floors...almost dismantled..
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too! |
