Where to go in Edmonton?
< on 1/31/2007 3:26 AM >
Posted on Forum: Infiltration Forums

Hi all. I just found this website. I've been exploring for years and didn't even realize anyone else did! I've mainly focused on smaller refinery substations along the Red Deer river, and abandoned coal mines around the Nordegg and Drumheller areas.

I live in Edmonton on the weekends and I've never found anywhere worth checking out. I'm looking for some suggestions? Preferably something underground, such as a utility tunnel or something like that (preferably with easy access, I don't like popping manholes)?

Thanks,
Saf

This site is not here to explore for you. Edmonton is chock full of stuff. Half the point is the looking.

Discovery is a major part of UE.

If you ever come to Calgary then email Satan@uea.ca and you'll be made welcome, taken to locations and given free accommodation. We'll help save you the $$$ you spend on the flight over here :)

preferably with easy access,

would you like our driver to pick you up at 7pm, or 8pm?

anytime earlier than that cannot be done unfortunately, as the Astin Martin will be getting detailed and waxed.

The LRT? There's an incomplete station under the Remand Centre (a mental hospital) downtown, just South of Churchill station. There is also the Pedways, which have some rooms worth exploring, I'm told.

Sorry for the late post, but the Remand Centre is not a mental hospital; it's a fully locked down facility for detained inmates awaiting trial.

Even as a relative noob I can offer some help here

The northside is more decay than the south. More so in the City Center and Beverly area.

The Beverly area was once a coal mining town

Take a walk down the river valley

This should help without giving to much away and without too much handholding.

Nursing home 56ave.
Today I've seen truck dropping excavator on the site...
So it is last chance to see it (if you don't mind asbestos signs)

http://strony.aste...ursery/nursery.htm

btw. I don't understand you guys, why you are not sharing locations...
For me UE is documenting abandoned buildings its history, I don't care how many people was there before me, or how many will be (as long they are explorers not vandals). More photos of the place - only better!

This weekend I'm going "Take a walk down the river valley", thanks 'StephenKing'!

They are quick, as I predicted, they started to demolish it Monday and right now a half of the building is gone...

I've took a walk down a valley, I haven't found anything interesting but big pile of scrap from clover leaf (I think) power plant... (demolishing squad was still working on what was left).

Sad. I think I was just a few months too late...

Any suggestions where else to go, before it is too late?

(Art gallery Churchill sq. is also just being demolished)

(Toad runs in)

Who cares? Edmonton sucks!!!)

(Toad runs out)

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too!

If you're in Edmonton, you're lucky because you live close to a dozen or so very large, very long stormwater drains. Not to mention all the other neat nooks and crannies in the city.

Thats what I was getting at when I said walk down the river valley

Umm check out Whitemud park also.

The Art Gallery is nothing special, and quite heavily guarded I have found

But this could be because of the amount of festivals happening in the Churchill Square

Since i work with a view of the Art Gallery i can say this

It's got camera's everywhere. they are recording 24/7

Half the building has been demolished. very dangerous site right now. the interior has pretty much been all stripped now.

They do have security around and well the courthouse and police stations are right near there too.

Nygus, thanks for the heads up on the Nursing Home as well. If they've started to demolish it (7/15); that means that I JUST got there.

I really appreciate it.
