First UE: Drain?
< on 1/25/2007 4:48 AM >

Hey all, I picked up the Access all Areas book from a library around here, and it looked interesting, so I thought I might give it a try. My first "mission" may be under a manhole on a side walk which says: "US COMM" on it, looks fairly easy to open (has inserts for a hook like device). Yet I don't think I could lift it on my own, any advice on how to draw someone in to this hobby without making them think "Oh, isn't that illegal?" Thanks in advance!

I'm always honest with the friends I bring. Wouldn't you feel terrible if you got busted and you weren't straight with your friends?

"US COMM" Doesn't sound like a drain. It sounds like something related to the telephone company. And as for your question, well, UE IS in fact illegal (most of the time) so why the fuck not just tell your friends that? If you really think they're going to respond like that, then maybe UE isn't for them.

Sorry bout the "drain" lable, there are a couple other manholes labled sewage and water within 30 ft. of the one I was talking about. As for the illegal parts, I wanted them to not feel that they have a huge risk of getting caught.

I agree fully with TC drainer--people should know what risks theyre exposing themselves to--be it asbestos or cops. That said, the USCOMM manhole is probably a telco manhole--it will basically be a single room with some punchdown blocks, lots of thick cable, and maybe some bad air and nasty water at the bottom. Also, I dont know what the atmosphere is like where youre from, but Ive noticed that law enforcement types are particularly keen on being not very nice to people trespassing on what the federal govt. defines as "critical infrastructure"... Check and see if the telephone system is part of this.

Wear a mask when going down into anything labelled sewage. See at least one sewage installation to complete your UE experiences.

I'd go for the hole labelled "water".

Sewers are underrated. It just smells like a laundry room really. Unless it's tiny and residential. Then the shit moves slow and smells like rotting poop.

Or if you're in a hot climate, or if the sewer is really old, or if it is partially open, and people throw garbage down there...

I don't think you've ever smelled sewage. And I'm not talking about the liquid stuff that flows in a trench while you walk on the ledges. I mean knee deep backed-up, stagnent solid waste, that nearly pulls your boot off every step you take.
