I picked up a couple 2AA LEDs for $8 each at Pep Boys. They came with 4 color lenses. Not name brand, but they been dropped a few times and still work like the day I got them.

Wow...Pep Boys...I haven't thought about them in years. I'm all warm and fuzzy from memories (I grew up in south jersey for a decade and then got stuck in Mass).

I'd rather have a decent standard light bulb flashlight than a cheap LED light. While they're LED, they're built cheaply and they are prone to switch issues.

Thats what I've got. I bought it off harborfreight.com
My only complaint about it is that the little battery carrier doesn't have very good contact with the circuit board, but that can be fixed:

I have a 4 led Head lamp that I use. It has 2 white LEDs, one red one, and a 1 watt Luxeon LED that's bright as hell (30 lumens). Runs on 3 AAA's, and at $17's its pretty affordable too!

I use a small one LED pen light as of late. You either need very little light just enough to see, or a whole lot.

Besides, Luxeon is out of date now. Cree and Seoul are t3h hawtn344.

7-11 (the ones in my area any way) have great LED's at the checkout area for about 8 dollars. they are the tiny palm size multi-bulb kind.

I'd highly recommend a coast LED lenser two color flashlight. One red light, 5 bright white LED's. The red is perfect for nighttime when you're outdoors, and the white is great for really dark abandonments. Only 25 bucks at home depot!

I still have a problem with leds not being bright enough. I have a good brinkman 3AA and it's wonderful as LED's go, but I bought 2 emergency flashlights for 4.99 (for both) plus batteries at CVS and they're still brighter than it is.... LED's are also more concentrated... I don't get as big a lit area.... I dunno, maybe it's just the particular flashlight.

Well I went to the Dollar store today and picked up 2 LED flashlights for a buck each. They work fairley well too!
First one: Has 3 high power LEDs in reflective cones that focus the light into a tight spotlight. Runs on 3 AAA's. AA batteries are for scale...

And the other one is a 9 superbright LED compact torch that does a pretty decent job of spreading light everywhere. Also runs on 3 AAA's.
