UE Journalism

I’m doing an article for my high school newspaper on Urban Exploration, and I need some input from actual explorers and not just a bunch of sophomores who break into the old armory to drink and trash the place. I’d really appreciate anything from anyone, from stories of past expeditions to just your take on UE in general. Just say whatever you want and then list or PM me the name you would like to be referred to as in the article.

You make it sound like you won't mind if such people respond but you don't really want replys just from them. In any case I doubt you'll find such people on this site so that was unnecessary.

And to start this project I think you should spend time reading the forums (articles, JOURNALS) and than asking permission from the users who made those posts to let you use their entry in your article. Or post a check list or interview for members to complete with whatever interests you about UE:
1. Why use a nickname?
2. What was your most thrilling exploration?
3. Did you ever get in trouble?
etc.

Otherwise your request is a bit vague. Be more specific.

Oh the reference to the sophomores was in regard to the people at my school who have done anything close to Urban Exploring. Not a shot at anyone on the site.

I have been looking through the threads and such on this site and countless others for almost a month now to get ready for this project, and I have got some beautifully crafted responses via PM.

Thanks for the help!

It seems like your interested in urbex. Your best bet is to try it out a few times than people might feel more inclined to help you out with your report.

If I was in your shoes, I'd go ahead and explore something interesting and write about it.

Go to the old armory, and write a piece about it. With any luck, some people in your class will have been there and will be able to relate.

As for permission to use whatever is written here, since it's mostly public domain, you could probably just write it and cite it. Feel free to look around and use anything I've written (not sure if there's anything noteworthy in my recent posts, but go ahead anyway).

A good place to look for stories would be the Location Database. People post stories along with pictures there all the time.

Sometimes, you need to march right in and demand your rights, even if you don't know what your rights are, or who it is you're talking to. Then, on your way out, slam the door.

I'm interested to know what the whole point of this article is. Is it to give an introduction to UE? Is it a follow up on a recent local event?

You then have to consider what implications it would have on the local UE 'scene' (oh how I hate that phrase).

Well it’s basically an introduction to what UE is and why people do it. Also, I commented on the lack of knowledge concerning UE and the lack of any sort of local community. I found kids at my school who have been doing this stuff for years and where surprised to find it even had a name, much less a large group of enthusiasts backing it. Also I think it’s good that these kids get exposed to the community, it’s ethics, and it’s philosophies. It breeds a larger sense of respect for the buildings and UE in general; that’s just good for everyone.
Oh and I have finished this article, thanks for everyone who posted here and thanks even more to everyone who wrote me back via PM!

Can you send it me aswell when it is finished?

From experience and what I have seen, reporters and the media can rarely protray us in a good light. Publicity is bad for a hobby that requires discretion and stealth and is even illegal in some countries.

Can I see it too?

I agree with Azubi.UK. It's nice to see writers who treat the subject with delicacy.
